  • Canadian Federal Elections

Before we get shouted down by other, more noticeable nations who have their own elections later this year, I want to ask what opinions others here on the upcoming federal elections. Recent polls suggest we're headed for a minority government, while just a few months ago, many would have predicted a landslide Liberal victory. To the other eligible Canadian voters out there, will you vote in this election? And how do you see the next few weeks going up to June 28?

I'm an eligable canadian voter and i'm voting for none of them. All politicians are lying fuckers and history has proven me right. Unless me, a member of my family or someone i know personally is running, i'm not gonna waste my vote that doesn't count on another person who'll break there promises.

Fuck you politics, fuck you... you've betrayed us all too much

I don't like the Conservatives's plan to remove the gun registry. NPD: I think it's sickening to blame PM Paul Martin in official discussions on their campaign; personally holding the PM responsible for the deaths of homeless people. NPD doesn't look professional enough or mature enough to do anything good besides waste money.

My focus is always on the economy. Education and health care actually rank below things like taxes and traffic for me. I don't believe any party has the political guts to make the changes to the education and health care systems that need to be done, so I'll back whichever party is least likely to just screw things up even more.

I'm looking for a plan that includes paying down the debt, marginal increases for health and education transfers to the provinces, some tax breaks for corporate or personal investing, and giving cities more control over where their tax dollars go. If no parties have these plans, I wont bother going out to vote this time.

Sorry, but I don't think you live in Ken Dryden's riding. Besides, he officially cut his ties to the team when he announced he was running.

Personally, I'm much more concerned with Don Cherry's situation.

Think about it. - Within the last six years the man affectionately known as Grapes has lost his sidekick pooch, his wife (which might explain a few things), and NOW the CBC is talking about not renewing his contract just because of a few subjective comments on how "the French and Europeans wear visors". What? Oh, according to the network executives at the CBC visors are considered 'weak' in hockey and so Cherry's misunderstood ranting doesn't gel with their staunch political correctness.

Like it or not, Don Cherry epitomizes all that is Canadian hockey. Since FOREVER he has toiled and boiled through the Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts on Saturday nights, riled up and piquing the minds of Canadian hockey fans from coast to coast. And yes, he loves Canadian hockey, but he's actually not scared to be HONEST if and when a foreign team plays a better line. Maybe this is because he played in the NHL himself for like. His commentary isn't always pretty, or what sports broadcasters are "supposed to say", but THANK GOODNESS he's not one of those BRAINLESS, terrified little wanks who put 90% of their energy into not saying "the wrong thing".

DC aggresively coached Boston in the 70's and after he was subsequently fired after a losing a Stanley Cup playoff game that ended with Montreal scoring through the power play (b/c Bruins had too many men on the ice at the end of the third period) he has NEVER revealed which player was mistaken. THAT is good sportsmanship.

So next time you find yourself in a lineup with a CBC network executive ask them who they're working for.

Don Cherry is the biggest jackass in the country, excluding every single politician. I don't like hockey, but have been forced to watch it sometimes while over at a friend's house. I will be very grateful when Cherry is off the air and is no longer seen as one of the most well known Canadians.

It's not his fearlessness or honesty that stand out to me. It's his complete inability to utter anything intelligent, even when it comes to hockey.

I agree EiG - and as for politics, I'm 17 and do NOT follow politics, but I wud have to say that any party that doesnt plan to raise the taxes too high due to the recent scandals, who will put more money into our military, becuz i think we're under equipped, and with the world developping as it is, I think we need to become more independent, and not be under the states' shadow forever. ummm also, i dont quite care about education atm, cuz ill be going out of education in the next week or two, and wont be having any children for a while, so... until i have kids, ill sacrifice educational suggestions.

I'm not going to vote for any of those parties. Frankly, I've lost faith in canadian governments. Liberal was on my voting list before the Ontario election. Now it's off. Thank to our oh wonderful premier (spell check pls).

I usually went for Liberals, just because they had been around for a while, and seemed to know how to do things. Although Paul Martin, being the unelected crook he is, steers me towards Conservative or maybe NDP.

(I don't vote, yet, but i keep my eye on things here and there)
