Maybe that's what I should do.. I don't know if I can just add to what I've got or if I need to buy a whole new 512.

depends on what you got in the box. Only one thing to do. crack the lid.

That's funny, since the lid hasn't been on in months.

I know that I have 2 128 chips (I'm sure that's the technical term for them). And there's only two slots of that size, I think there's a different size other slot, but I'm not sure what it is or if I can just chuck another bigger chip in there.

I'm pretty sure I have the manual somewhere, if not, I'll have to take a picture of it and make you guys tell me if I can do stuff.

since you have an athlon board, chances are that it will support up to 512mb chips.

and since you have an OLDER athlon board, you don't have DDR support, so likely you are only using PC100 or PC133 128mb SDRAM DIMMS.

          You'd be better off buying a new mobo/processor/RAM .

yeah, I was gonna get a new computer, but I keep putting it off to save money. Up until I started playing WoW, I basically only play subspace on it, so it didn't seem worth it. And it's hard justifying spending a bunch of money just so I can play WoW.

Maybe since my memory is the old kind, I can hit places that sell used parts and see if I can get something cheap.

One of the reasons I loved Asheron's Call (one of the better, but not as popular 2nd Gen MMORPG's) was because you could solo just as well as grouping. In fact, you usually did better in terms of exp and loot by soloing at higher levels and you could easily walk into the middle of nowhere and kill hordes of high level monsters all by yourself.

I'm thinking of getting into WoW when it comes out, but I need to know a few things about it.

How well can most classes solo from mid to high levels?

How is the loot system? Most of the best items probably come from quests, but I loved the fact that you could pull the most amazing equipment from monsters or chests in Asherons Call

Are there already cookie cutter builds? It's extremely annoying when you have to build your character a certain way if you want to excel.

I'm still basically a newbie, so I don't know all of this stuff in depth, but from what I've seen:

every once in awhile you'll pull a crazy good piece of armor from a low level monster, and that's pretty cool.

Mages are really hard to solo with at the start, but once you get a few of the basic spells you do quite well. Some types solo better than others, I've heard it said that mages are the strongest to solo with.

If there's a formula for building the best guy, I don't think anyone's figured it out yet, or if they have, I just don't know about it. It seems like everything's so new and there's so many ways to go with your guy, that it's hard to tell. I think strengths and weaknesses will become more obvious later on when all the players are fighting each other a lot more.

Grr...damn expensive computer parts. I don't have money to upgrade, my next months salary (~1300-1400 $) goes to my dad. Still owe him for my drivers license. Bleh.

                    • bleh i have a p4 with 512 ddr and a radeon 9600 with 256 ram and all my settings on low and i still get bogged down in certain "busy" and "graphicaly rich" areas of the game,, plus i defragged spywared adawared etc etc virus checked and basically spent a whole night optimizing and cleaning my system and it still sucks shit .not only that, i also read every possible graphic problems thread in the wow beta tech support forums, did the things they suggested, and still no dice. when i go on a griphon ride i average about 1 frame every 4 seconds.

                      • That's because the company that manufactures those one 800$ graphics cards that you have to have a giant case for them even to fit payed Warcraft to completely de-optimize their game, so the only way to get a good framerate would be to buy their mammoth card.

                        • This game kicks ass, I have a lvl 25 human mage and a lvl 13 human priest. There's still a lot left to do for blizzard, some animations and graphics are subpar. And class / race / skill diversity is quite lacking at the moment.

Apart from that, the atmosphere is great, I dig the style of graphics and the territory of each race is incredibly different.

Also, I got to beat the shit out of treants

                              • Conc and Mytth, Down for a Deadmines run today? Say around 8pm EST?

and ajax, try upgrading your ram, because that's the only thing different between our boxes at first glance, and I run all detail on high, and get no frame lag, except for dropping a few frames around the auctioneer at stormwind.
