About Google "reading" mails.
I personally don't think they check every mail you send. It's impossible to do that. There probably will be something like a 'filter' that will quarantaine certain mails containing suspicious textures, attachments,... And even then; if how many mails are there being send every second. It's just too much to keep up with. I wonder what would happen if I write a mail to a friend in which I explain how I'm going to try to blow up our Belgium Royal Palacment.

C'mon, heres the "problems":
1. Immortality- other email people are upping their storage space, why focus on google?
2. Google's policies do not apply- this is vaguely worded and hints to more of a conspiracy theory. I read "possible" and "probably" more than "they did" and "they will"
3. A massive potential for abuse- "potential", MSN and Yahoo could do the same thing, why set up a google conspiracy
4. Innapropriate ad-matching- Because the ads make my gmail experience *SO* much better, because i look at the ads before doing anything else

The reason they do not 'pick' on MSN's Hotmail or Yahoo mail is simply because in their service agreement they tell you what exactly happens with their email.

That, compounded by the fact your e-mails are scanned so "they can tailor ads to your interests", is reason enough not to sign up for or even consider using a gmail account.

Inapropriate ad matching is also a weak argument. Judging by your sarcasm, you're not one to look at ads anyway, so why would you want a bot setup to scan your e-mails just so it can paste some links to news that you probably wouldn't click on anyway?

The way I understand it, it's a non logged process. When the server serves your email, it read through it and uses the relevant words in a google ad search to display ads while you're viewing. There's no logging involved though, so while the ad server "reads" your mail, it does not remember it.

Can anyone correct/confirm this?

Very interesting indeed, but there's no reason for me not to believe google; it's treated me very well over the past years. Until something happens (instead of it possibly happening), I'll stick with gmail.
