Sometimes cutters do it for attention. Not all do. The ones going out and telling people they are cutting might be doing it for attention. Some cutters do it because of tough times or depression. When they cut themselves, the pain they inflict on themselves is a way for them to escape from the problems they are facing at that time. Its like an escape away from reality while it lasts.Comment

I just used to have a ton of problems and stuff, and when our class went on a field trip to Washington DC I got stuck in a room with two girls who hate my guts and love my boyfriend, and I got all bleh and started cutting. I didn't cut for attention (considering no one knew about it), I cut because it was the only pain I could control. Other stuff happened too but it's not related to this thread .
