  • jDoom

    I'm sure a few of you have seen or heard of this before. jDoom is an enhanced win32 port of id Software's Doom.
    • It uses the Doomsday engine which is an extended win32 version of the original doom engine. Doomsday provides OpenGL support, Particle effects, Dynamic light effects and 3D sound;
    • It works with any version of shareware and registered Doom, Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom. One of these versions is required to play, as it requires the .wad files;
    • Customizable Controls;
    • Mouse look;
    • Enhanced menus with features such as scalable gfx and sound, plus a multiplayer menu.

    There are also custom maps, models, textures and sounds available to download.

    Shareware versions of Doom, Hexen and Heretic can be found here:
    http://www.download.com/sort/3120-20...t=doom&ca=2001
    And the jDoom, jHexen and jHeretic files can be found here:
    www.doomsdayhq.com

    With all the hype about the release of upcoming Doom III, I think this would be a great way to get into the swing of things, so dust off that old copy of Doom and get it installed along with jDoom!

    EDIT: Just tried my first playtest. The engine is very much like the Quake 3 engine, very extensive set of options, sounds are great just like the original but much better quality, graphics are just like the original but custom textures and models are a must!

    Excellent extension, a must for all old school Doom fans and for those of you who are anticipating Doom III.

          I checked out that port ages ago. It's alright.
          Same goes for JonoF's ports of games that use the Build engine (like Duke Nukem 3D). Personally I don't think they add that much to the original versions. Installing a port is just the easiest way to get those old games running on current systems.
          There's no place like 127.0.0.1

                I didnt do much research into ports of the old classics like doom, I didnt know it was as popular as it is, theres many people playing Doom II online!

                I'll have to find that OpenGL extention, Dameon.

                  I used to have Doom Communicator, or something like that. It was a Gamespy Arcade for Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 online deathmatch. So fun.

                              yes, exactly what I used, but the original Doom 3 download was taken down.

                              Wadi obviously doesnt care about doom.
