You're is short for "you are".

Your describes the ownership of something... to the person you are talking to.

i hope none of my english professors next semester cares whether or not I use you're or your. cuz imean seriously people, we were taught to put I before E except after C. But there are words like "neighbour" and "weigh" and "species".
