Im worried technology is going too far. I don't want to live on another planet, I don't want computers a size of a phone, I don't want robots, I don't want flying cars, I don't want everything to be digital. I love how life is right now. If there is robots, how will you get off the couch and get a glass of water? I think im tired of the new stuff. World will come to a different thing in 10 more years, but I don't want that to happen . Today if you see cars, less horses its because of technology think about the future, there will be flying cars.

Wrong forum... UC or maybe General?

"I don't want to live on another planet"

Probably won't happen for the general public for another 150 years (just kinda ball parking it with all of this.)

    "I don't want computers a size of a phone"

    http://www.castanet.net/classifieds/pics/62529.jpg

    "I don't want robots"

it will always be easier and cheaper to have human labor probably.

    "I don't want flying cars"

They're not Anti Gravity but the systems for personal aircrafts are being designed but to actually buy one right now is 1 million $ american, even though the digital flight system to control it isn't in place yet.

We're a long way off from changing basic life as we know it. All of that can change though and if it does then.... sweet , I can fly an air plane around like in planetside .

It is very sad how all these technological "advances" are deemed to be simply great for the human race. We are falling to the plague of "necessary" convenience. We are evermore pressed down upon by the weight of greed, marketing and propaganda. As this "time" presses down upon us, smothers us, we ever fall further from ourselves, toxic waste slowly infiltrating our minds, our bodies...poisoning us...consuming us. We slave away for the betterment of mankind obliviously, as it continues to get worse. And yet we state facts and figures, statistics, dehumanizations as progress. We denounce those who want to live simply, self-sustainably, even- for wanting to live off the land and provide for themselves. We like to call them lazy for not wanting to "work". All the while we toil away in sweatcubicles so that we can make great advancements in technology so that many people, instead of few(sometimes), can further their laziness to levels never-before-thought-possible all the while lessening their own thoughts. Ever so we spew pollution, chemicals into the land not caring about those in the future, and especially not caring for those that don't belong to the human race. For we humans love to feel that we are superior to all other life, all other matter. We love to take the lasso to the gallows and commit double-murder. Latch on to nature and tame her, for we are surely superior, disemboweling nature with our materialistic, arrogant thoughts and disemboweling ourselves with our superficial, greedy actions. Thinking ever in the physical plane, having to manipulate and categorize everything in our terminology while ever-losing vital "information" in our raging urges to classify and to define. We feel we must understand, and that we must understand in these terms we have created. Much is lost in transcription and conveyance, and each is subject to each's own perception. This all plays into our constant need to "advance" and "further" whatever it is we call "quality of life". Of course one could say this is nature, for we are nature and we build skyscrapers as bees build hives...

This is not to say that all technological advancements are just more pulsating, gene-molding ooze and contraptions- there are a plethora of great ideas and technologies that can help us live healthier and more in touch with our surroundings. I just find it very sad that the emphasis today is on greed, superficiality, "convenience", deidentifying and fitting in "technology". Much is simply played off to be for our benefit and we are thankful to have many things that were invented "for us", but we must keep in mind that/those which preceded and brought these technologies we are thankful into context, or even existence.

Greed, ignorance, and the communal superiority complex of the human race
Clutching metal braces as we race to disgrace
As the pollution wipes clear all expression, all face

technology is advanceing at a great speed, only 100yrs ago we were still mostly depending on horses to transport us, not many had running water, we never had tellys computer or any other means of getting news other than the news paper and radio. not many people had telephones (or where they not invented? i dont know when they were)

Even the simplist likes in life are open to new technologies. only recenty have we worn trainers inside of proper shoes or non at all!.the clothes we were are now more suited to what we do, like you wouldnt see a brickie go to work with a suit on, but before nearly everyone wore the same except the rich.

not all change is bad but i think we have to be carefull on what we DO change. like the scientist's that have been givein the go ahead to clone a baby then kill it, they may start off doing it for the right reasons but soon someone will get carried away with the work and do something we wosh they wont.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Must get this in before TK or Conc or someone reasonably intelligent beats me to it:

                Neat! Actual Real Luddites!

If you don't want to live on another planet, get cloned, have a tiny computer, have a robot girlfriend, have a flying car, time travel, have a shiney space suit, have a jetpack, self drying clothing, or a delorean that runs on Mr. Fusion: The simple answer is don't.

More jetpacks and sweet sweet Robot girlfriends for me.

On the other subject of cloning babies and killing them.
I have a kind of "controversial" stance. It applies to stem-cell research, cloning, abortion, the whole she-bang.

James Doohan from Star Trek, he played Scotty. He has Alzheimer's Disease. My view is, all the dead aborted unwanted babies in the world would be worth chopping up, if they could find a cure for Scotty.

Not because he's a celebrity, not because I am necessarily a Star Trek fan, but just so he could remember that he lost his right middle finger on D-Day in WWII, and was a Spitfire Pilot for the Canadian Royal Air Force.

Now his wife says that sometimes he looks at his right hand in astonishment, and wonders how he lost his finger.

not all technology is shitty, just some. like dvd's. cant even rent a fucking movie any more without missing big chunks due to some dipshit scratching the cd. i dont care about their shitty extra features, and rewinding shit isnt that hard. technological advances in transportation and medicine and shit is good though. cell phones kind of piss me off. life was fine before them, now it seems like one rings every couple of minutes, especially when they arent supposed to. if u dont have one though you are at a disadvantage.

On one hand I agree- I never bought a computer until a couple years out of college (and I'm an engineer). I only bought a cell phone recently and I did it because using it to replace my local+long distance was cheaper. Technology should be 1) a benefit, i.e. it actually improves your life in some way, not just make it more convenient at the sacrifice of quality, and 2) not costly, i.e. it shouldn't be more expensive or cause more (enviromental, etc.) harm than what it replaces.

On the other hand- the internet, google, online shopping, and sharing music has transformed (for the better) the way I do a lot of things.

On the other hand, TW sucks time and life out of my body and is evil.
