Hacking

I have never hacked and have no intention of doing so, but I am interested to see what other people's views are on this subject?
To me, hacking seems pointless. Of course, a small amount of hacking will result in a personal gain (credit card details, paypal password etc) and there's "cyber-terrorism", where someone can threaten to release a logic bomb or bring down a bank's systems for a ransom. Apart from these two scenarios I don't see what makes people hack, is it to show off, or just because you can do it?

Have you ever hacked? If so, under what circumstances? Was it just to have a laugh with a mate, or maybe you were trying to get someone's details or maybe just DoSing something/someone (I know DoS isn't strictly hacking, but as far as I am concerned, it is in this discussion)
How did you do it? No details, just a brief outline, I don't want this to become a discussion on how to hack as that would be likely to be closed.
Would you hack again or do you have any plans to hack someone?

the closest thing I've done to hacking is making a program to get to the command promt on my schools computers, so me and my friends could netsend the entire school network with funny messages (its a big network considering its in a highschool). I would have to say people hack for laughfs and personal gain.

once me and a couple of friends on high school broke into school shitty and crappy old network, we got root and changed the level of others who had root access. We erased everyones end year jobs so teacher couldnt give us 0 for not making one during the year instead of playing doom and duken nuken on the network.

i think that trying to hack things to make them better or discover holes is cool. making it for own purposes or prejudice ppl sucks.

Yeah, the closest thing to hacking is when I used to love programming in batch code.

Basically I wrote a batch shutdown program which would shutdown your computer after 30 seconds with a message saying "yu0 b33n h4x0red!"

I installed it on a computer at school in the startup and they had to reformat it.

Also, I wrote a batch program that would ping your internet connection so fast simultaneously that it would crash the computer.

Long long time ago though, I was in year 9.

I see hacking as a dangerous hobby, its just quite interesting to see what you can actually do.
