I said "World Championships", not "World Cup". The Championships are run annually and usually start around the same time as the second round of the NHL playoffs. It's a much bigger deal in Europe than it is in North America because a lot of the best NHL players are still with their clubs in the playoffs while European leagues are already done so they can afford to send their best.

Just a minor note; we don't send our best either, because our best also play in NHL.
