lol, you both suck...those drawings are good, too bad you probably didnt draw them. and a good writer wouldn't be wasting time posting on a shitty ss forum so therefore thats an open and shut. bioture is a gay male stripper so who cares anyways..

Jason - I'm not really attacking your writing, just the notion that certain writers think that either poems or other writing is "art" and call themselves "artists." I was actually talking about this with my publisher at the nuyorican in NY The other day, she said that writing isn't considered art now that the subject has been so faded. You are a writer. You are NOT an ARTIST.

The fact of the matter is that there has been an explosion of amateur writing during the past few years, and most of it is about either: love, sex, death, beauty, being hurt, blah blah blah. There is rarely any treatment of the subject themselves anymore (read up on your william carlos williams). Sometimes a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is a FUCKING ROSE.

Spidermage is considered an artist because those drawings rock. And until you can write something that gives me the same image in my head, you're not an artist. You're just a writer. And until you can write something on the calibre of "Valentine" by Carol Ann Duffy, you're not a very good writer either. There are so many people out there that think they can write down some cliche ridden shit and call it art. Pathetic. And whats even worse is they think its the best shit in the fucking world - come on now, words sometimes just isn't as eyecatching.

edit: i forgot to add "religion" to the list. and it also bothers me that most new writers can only write about sad shit. imean alright, we get it. You are depressed and you have been nursing a past wound with bitterness. Get over yourself. I think it goes without saying that sad shit happens all the time. Its nothing special.

edit #2: Troll King I read your first chapter of your short story and it is very John Updikeish at best - and that could be a complement, depending on how you take it.
If you are trying to say that writing is not an art because "everything has been done before", you might want to reconsider. What on earth is original and different about the pictures by SpiderMage? It's ANIME ffs, you get 854,000 results by typing it into google image search!

Writing is one art, drawing another. Urbandictionary.com has a nice definition of the word: "An expression of self, mind, body or spirit; A creative medium for one to express him or herself."
(another good one was: " guy with 1 arm and 1 leg hanging on the wall", but enough abou that.

Singing is an art, I might post one of my songs if I can get my hands out of my ass and record the shit.

You know what I hate about writers? That they take themselves too seriously. I mean wow, get a head check.

My argument was that it takes more skill to draw something visual. I mean, if you can reproduce every frame in Akira by hand, I think it goes without saying that you are an artist. The truth is, poetry is nothing more than words on a page. I can call my shopping list a poem if I wanted (i think someone made that mistake once, to another famous poet) Being cliche is a factor, but you have to understand that being horrible is also a cliche in the written world.

Writing might be easier, but writing something that sounds good is a gift/trained skill that is just as rare as the ability to draw.
Your shopping list poem might be compared to a drawing by me: Both are art but they suck bigtime.
Modern art is a thing of it's own though

Gods... when did this turn into a flame fest, it was just meant as a place for people to post their art. Drawing, computer drawing, painting, writing, songs, etc etc are all art simply for the fact that someone took time to create them, easy or not.

And then we have idiots like Rogue who just know nothing, right of course I drew none of those pictures, uh huh( sarcasim btw )

Did I say there was anything wrong with naked women?

Besides writing is an art, I would give anything to be able to write down all my feelings, but I suck at it. If writing is so easy and it is not an art, why dont we have 2 billion writers in the world all making bestsellers?

You heard, fuck off. It's not that complicated. And I don't know why you're debating whether writing is art or not. If someone wants to read/comment on your stuff they can go to the latest thread you started about it. You know the one you started after you "lost track" of the one you started before that. So there's no need to try to crowbar your stuff in at every opportunity you see. That seems a little sad don't you think? At least TK has a bit more class than to do that, and his writing's pretty good.

                              I guess I'm just not a wankshaft.

Perhaps if you ever contributed anything to any of these types of threads other than whiny bitching, I wouldn't be upset with you. Telling me that I'm trying to "crowbar my stuff in at every opportunity I see" is a load of horseshit. I appreciate writing, and I know plenty of others on this forum who do as well. Share and share alike. What's wrong with that? I don't boast or brag about my stuff. I don't say it's hot to trot. I don't say it sucks dick. I put it up and let people read it if they want to, or not read it if they don't want to. As a very long time member of this community, I feel plenty comfortable enough with a majority of the forum goers to share my writing with them. I don't care where the sharing happens to go down.

Reality check for a Mr. GoldenPlums. Go listen to Bukowsi by Modest Mouse, and pay particular attention to the line, "God who'd wanna be such an asshole?"

                                Oy...

Maybe I should have just titled the thread "TW Artists and Writers" so people would stop bitching.

Jason and Troll are writers, which makes them "literal artists" or artists who express themselves through word instead of picture. Writers can make anyone visualize a setting/person with words almost as well as an artist can by actually drawing it. I read Troll's story segments and I could picture the setting and the characters, thus that makes him an artist. I skimmed Jason's stuff( would have actually read it if not for the "meh" comment ) and he makes a pretty good attempt at making you feel what he feels, thus artist.

Written, drawn, photographed, taped or coded, self expression is art, period.

So stop flaming each other, if you don't like pictures being on here, or stories/poems, don't read this thread or don't read/view that particular post.

Remember, no one, no one can have a clear cut and perfect definition of what art is, because art is always changing. 100 years ago, there was no such thing as "cinematic art" aka movies, 50 years ago there was no "interactive art" aka video games. Art keeps expanding to include different things, and it has included writing for as long as people had the intelligence to write.
