  • IQ vs voting record

I don't know how accurate IQ tests are, and I don't know how accurate this data is, but it's still pretty funny

they had one exactly like this with exactly the same results, also involving income with the same trend, for the 2000 elections with gore in place of kerry

it was funny, but was somewhat debunked (one of the sources: http://www.isteve.com/Web_Exclusives...115.6465670139)

i was going to make a factual picture with a graph that said "IQ OF PEOPLE WHO DO NOT FIND FALSE GRAPHS FUNNY" (which would be really high) and then "IQ OF PEOPLE WHO ARE STUPID AND BELIEVE FALSE CHARTS" but after getting head, for a period of 30-45 minutes you tend to lose any enmity you can muster toward anyone so here is a nice(r) version (sorry no ms paint funny pictures, someone call sarien(who uses photoshop but they might as well be mspaint))

this thing had to have been made by someone who voted for Bush, to show how stupid people who vote for Kerry are to believe it, disclaimer and all

As much of a liberal that I consider myself to be, a lot of things people "on the left" have been saying lately about Bush voters have been fairly un-liberal. There was an article about this in the Toronto Star yesterday (I'd provide a link to the online version, but you might need a subscription to see it) that denounced a lot of the bashing of the religious right, the ultra conservatives and the "uninformed and ignorant masses" that voted for Bush because they are exhibiting a level of elitism and blanket stereotyping that run against core liberal values. Liberals are bashing Bush voters for being unintelligent, Bible-thumping, knuckle-dragging rednecks, and that itself.

Let me know if this doesn't work; I have the text cut and pasted into a txt file.

To me it seems like that was the reason alot of Conservatives did vote Bush - calling someone stupid is not how to get their vote.

wait let me guess, the higher the percent of population voting for kerry the smarter the state was too. So the state that went 60/40 kerry/bush will have the higher IQ than a 59/41 kerry bush state. I am just guessing, I did look at it yet.

what's funny is that the "debunking" site that is linked which uses the state by state SAT/ACT scores to estimate intelligence and re-ranks them actually just gives more credibility to the idea that the democratic states are more intelligent. on the "debunk" rankings 6 of 7 of the highest IQ states were still democratic, and 12 of 13 of the bottom states were republican....doesnt seem like much of a debunking at all to me, even though the idiot tries in vain to save it by mentioning with no evidence in support of it that "its the democrats in the bottom states that bring down the IQ".

the problem is that it cant be debunked properly because there is an element of truth to it. no one with a brain would argue against the fact that there is a strong correlation between religious belief and conservative political views. it has also repeatedly been shown in many studies that intensity of religious belief is negatively correlated to IQ. A --> B --> C im sure you can figure it out.

                          is it bullshit?

enough of links to politicized websites. this is taken directly from ACT.org, the organization that administers the test itself. heres the link if you want to verify what im saying: http://www.act.org/news/data/04/states.html

i didnt feel like wasting the time of going through and calculating an average, but looking at composite score ill name only the states that scored above 22 on average (the top 11 scoring states in alphabetical order):

                          Connecticut - Kerry
Iowa - Bush (by a margin of less than 1% of counted votes)
                          Maine - Kerry
                          Massachusettes - Kerry
                          Minnesota - Kerry
                          New Hampshire - Kerry
                          New York - Kerry
                          Oregon - Kerry
                          Vermont - Kerry
                          Washington - Kerry
                          Wisconsin - Kerry

                          10/11? a coincidence?

like i said...from ACT.org not some politically slanted bullshit website. you draw your own conclusions. sterotypes dont come from nowhere, yes they are often greatly exaggerated but often times there is some degree of truth behind them.

I scored a 32 on my ACT. Does that mean that since I leaned toward Bush and have 10 points higher than a 22 that now all Kerry states are stupid too?

And the fact in itself that I scored that high on an ACT sort of invalidates its existance anyways. :P

At least for ACT testings, those scores are inaccurate for states in New England, or really the North East in general. At least when I was preparing to get into college, almost no one I knew took ACTs, we all just took our SATs. Working with my niece and nephew on this stuff, I know that still none of the colleges in the North East area of the US really deals with ACTs, and that such a small percentage of people take it, that they usually just disregard it up here. Anyways, though I'm not going to argue that CT isn't a smart state (I live there, end of story ), I don't think you can properly argue this IQ debate with the given information. Hell, I didn't even have to say anything, look at the low percentage of students that took it in Connecticut alone, 9%.
