Has anyone mentioned The Mars Volta's album for this year? Though the concept was pretty morbid, some of the songs were pretty neat and extremely enjoyable to listen to. Though I'm not an emo or pop kind of guy (though I don't really dislike any type of music) I guess I'll have to check some of these albums out. As for Electronic music albums of this year, check out thedjlist.com ... I havne't checked there for a while, but they usually have a list of high profile dj albums that come out, and their dates.

Mars Volta was cool, but the better of the two bands that formed after At The Drive-In's dissolution is definitely Sparta. Their album "Porcelain" is amazing - full of the singing that drew me to ATDI, but with enough evolution to make them a very unique and downright amazing band.

Poison the Well hasn't released anything since 2003 and that CD was pretty damn good. By pretty damn good I mean kick ass in your face kinda heavy.

I just listened to some damn good acoustic, light, orchestral rock...so now I'd like to say that I Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business - I Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business is also one of my picks for the best stuff of 2004. It's a side project of the lead singer from The Early November.

EDIT Jerome, I haven't listened to all of Sparta's new CD, but from the few songs I have listened to, I think that their first CD (not to mention all of ATDI's stuff) is better.

Franz Ferdinand has been the only album that I've been listening to. I haven't been following much else new, been listening to oldies myself outside of Franz.

Bjork's album is great too, Same as from Kayne West, Snow Patrol has a great album. I love the cd from Air, is that from 2004? I have the feeling I have had it for over a year now. And it's not 2004, but I really like Stings album: Sacred Love.

One of my best friends works on the Incubus tour--I went to see it a couple months ago, and Sparta was absolutely AWFUL.
