  • Van gogh murder

Why is no politicians/ hollywooders jumping on this? A man makes a video critical of muslims and is murdered for it in Netherlands none the less.
To all the virgins, Thanks for nothing
brookus> my grandmother died when she heard people were using numbers in their names in online games.. it was too much for her little heart

First of all I never really liked his movies, take 06 for example, it really sucked. It's so obvious that he was trying real hard to make a "controversial" movie, most Dutch movies have this problem, and in the end it was just boring.
Of course to get to the point of the topic, it shouldn't be "allowed" that anyone can get killed for expressing his or her opinions, as radical and provocating as they might be to some others. You won't hear me say "he was kinda asking for it", but he was a provocator, and I didn't really have much respect for the way he usually did it..
Anyway just like with Pim Fortuyn, in Holland our politicians have endless, useless, discussions about the whole issue, with the help of the media it gets blown out of proportions. I wonder if they really don't realise they make things just worse, or that they're just as selfish as everyone else and just care about attention/money. Anyway in the end nothing really gets done, except for a few ridicilous measurements maybe that don't help or sometimes even do the opposite.
Also a nice result is that at least one idiot politician makes the smart move and makes a party founded on one idea: "let's get all muslims/allochtonous (people of an ethic minority) out of our country" and he suddenly has like 10% of Holland backing him up. (Holland has about as much idiots as the USA.) And then in the next elections he'll either be out of the picture, unless when he succeeds in keeping himself a hot item and then his party wins a lot of votes and gets an important (as far as anyone can consider politics in Holland important) place in the parlement. Then of course they get a lot of inner fights and the most ridicilous querrels, which is kinda inevitable when you're whole party is connected on just 1 ridicilous idea. Good thing is that they're the breeding ground of the Dutch satire and although unintended have a very important role. Unfortunatly everything funny can get old, so did Dutch politics. Right now it reached the point of being just pretty fucked up, saddening and boring. It's nothing more than a regular soap.
To get back on Van Gogh / Fortuyn, same person to me, just kidding. I've no idea how to solve people getting killed for expressing their provocating/radical -whatever- ideas. I doubt it's completly solveble, and even turning the state into a policestate woudln't solve it, although most rightwing politicians like to think it will. But what I do know is a big part of this problem is the media who give it way too much attention. If there was zero attention given to this murder, I doubt as much people would consider killing an important person / celebrity for having a different opinion / radical ideas or making a provocating movie. When nobody hears about it half the use of killing the person is already gone. Although not the only reasons, Attention / stirring up trouble are reasons and the easiest to solve.
But then again our politicians are too busy not losing their role in the soap to do anything useful!!!

Good thing I'm really a very selfish person and don't really care about stuff like this.

The only problem I had with the murder (besides it being wrong etc.) was the van Gogh was becoming a hero, he was painted as a god, as a frontman of our society. Wich is bs, because he wasn't that great at all. Sure he was himself, and he had a very clear opinion, but he took it overboard alot of times. Sometime's he just went to far, and it wasn't freedom of speech anymore, he was just insulting people. Still murder is wrong, but he ain't that great a guy.

I was wondering if there had been much of a backlash after this had happened. Has it really changed people's opinion?

the rednecks of OUR country, just went more to the extreme right side. But I doubt they will stay there until the next elections. And just the whole discussion of freedom of speech etc. got some new life blown into. but our prime-minister is such a shithead... you seriously can't take him serious when he says something.
