Purebred bigger dogs have a greater chance for numerous breeds.. but not all, it's just the ones that have passed the genes for it down. By the way a good 80-90% of vets (at least in every place i've ever lived) are generally crooks too. They'll say whatever they can think of to sell as much as possible. Not all, but if something seems fishy with a vet, just switch, until you get an open and honest one.

There are breeders that say they test and do selective breeding to try to breed out all these recessive genes and disease traits, but to me they've always seemed only one step of creepy above the others. The problem remains that they still inbreed the poor dogs and so even when they get rid of the disease they see, how many more unseen recessives are they helping to pass on? That's what happens when you keep your genetic pool locked, it brings the nasty goop bubbling up. With crossbreeding it has always been that the more dominant genes are what is passed on, and they become dominant when they're a "good thing" mostly.
My favorite saying of breeders is when they say: "Without breeders there would be no dogs." As if without a human present dogs don't know how to fuck.
