It wouldnt be that impossible if they make a system taking in account the file storage as the big deal thing.
You dont need to store the same file twice, mainly if its big, because where would someone send/receive a file with 200 mb ? They record it once on a disk and make kinds of links for who has this in email. That way would prolly reduce a lot the space needed. Weird, exactly the same here. My email name is Sherrbear, and all the spam emails are titled something like "Sherrbear78" "Sherrbear01" "Sherbear" and spoofs off my name and stuff so I can't block it.
