a) find the values of a and b
b)find the coordinates of M,the mid-point of AB
c)fiind the equations of the line through M perpendicular to AB giving your answer in the form y=mx + c

2x - y + 6 = 0 intersects the coordinates axes at 2 points A(a,0) and B(0,b)....

A/AS-level maths how i hate u so.... :unsure:

Um.. that's kinda easy.

A: (-3,0)
B: (0,6)

Mid point = (-1.5,3)

Perpendicular bisector: Well, 2x-y+6=0, -> y=2x+6 so it's y =-1/2x + c

when x = -1.5 y = 3 so 3 = -1/2 x -1.5 + c -> 2.25 = c
so it's the perpendicular bisector through m is y = -1/2x + 2.25

Took me 5 mins without writing anything down, and I'm not even the best at Maths.

Yea. What your doing is the very beginning easiest stuff of AS Level, bordering on GCSE. It gets harder. When you start differentiation/integration, it's easy, but when you get onto P2 and P3, it gets hard.

At uni so far, Diff 1 was what I had learnt at A-Level.
Diff 2 and Integration 2 (not done yet) is what you learn at Further Maths A-Level (which I didn't take)
Integration 3 and 4 are both above Further maths level, and I have to teach all this crap to myself (It's a self teach maths course for the first semester )

I've heard that in my second semester (I am in my first year), the maths we do (thankfully this time we get it taught to us) is harder than the maths second year students of a maths degree do.

If you guys think maths is easy, wait til you start doing this heavy calculus stuff (calculus = differentiation/integration), pretty much everything is based around it.

dipped my toe in P3, they have moved the the marking round this year and alot of A and AS has been mixed up and switched. integration can be abit tricky but once i got my head round it,its ok. which uni u at then

Southhampton. The hardest stuff is in P2, there's no/very little integration in P3, there's a little bit in P1. I doubt you do the P3 stuff before P1. P3 was the very last module for me. Are you in AS or A Level?

long shot.............do u know someone called mark bulcolm, surname mite be spelt wrong, so jus sound it out with me "bul-curm". i beieve he is doing maths there, or a maths related subject. im both, to get to uni this year i had to retake my AS and do my A-level in the same year.

The only Mark I know had really dodgy hair (as I said, slicked down, centre parting), smells, doesn't talk, used to work in a pub, always plays Train Simulator.

I don't really talk to him much so have no idea where he's from.

I'm only one year ahead of fthe people in my grade. That is really weird.

This is really weird considering I took it in 8th grade (13).

Yea I'm a freshman. Our school is stupid and if you're smart and everything (there's one class out of the whole grade that takes this route) you take Advanced Math in 6th grade, Pre-Algebra in 7th, Algebra in 8th, which is for high-school credit, and then you can retake Algebra again if you failed or move on to geometry. Thus, my geometry class is all seniors and three freshman, and the mean score of the tests is around a 53%. I have 103% in the class. Go figure.

im 15 and takin geometry, i would be in algebra II right now if i didnt have to take algebra twice because i failed (7th and 8th) and u dont have a birthday during the school year? because i was 13 and 14 during 8th lol..
