You guys are weird, not only do you drive on the wrong side.. you use a handbrake to make a 3 point turn? All you do here is, slowly let the car roll forward, when it starts rolling turn the wheel all the way around when you are nearing the curb, slowly start turning the wheel back, not to early, and try to brake so you gently just get stopped against the curb (if it is there), then while holding your foot on the brake, us the left foot to control the clutch, but it in reverse, do the same let it roll again and turn the wheel around till you are straight, again try not to bounce of the curbs, shift back in first gear, and let the car gently role turn wheel all around and you are done, no handbrake involved whatsoever.

Oh, when he said using the handbrake I thought he meant making a powerover type maneuver where you go to about 15+ MPH and then pull it while turning to make a efficient, if not quiet, turn. Wouldnt really be much of a 3 point turn though; it would be more of a rotation.

People used to walk before having cars, and they passed each other on the right side even then. Then came horses and the same tradition continued.

Sweden used to drive on the left side until the 50's I think. Then on the day they changed, all cars had to stop at 11.59, change lanes at 12.00, and continue driving at 12.01. B)

        O and what's a 3 point turn?

if you come to a curb too fast with a car that has front wheel drive, the car will start pushng forward instead of turning. So then you pull the handbrake which will result in that the back end loses grip and the car turns faster. Then you countersteer and put the pedal to the metal and the car will not drive off the road as it was about to a second ago.

I didn't find a good picture but this one, demonstrating the ESP, will have to do:
The green line is what is about to happen, the red line is what happens when you pull the handbrake. Then once you put some gas on it will stay on the road hopefully

Well first off... We don't have to it in in 3-points anymore... it's just called a "turn in the road"
Second off... If you touch the curb during your test here it's a major and you fail <_<

I have my test in a week  ... I'm gonna try that ESP thing :P

As I said, you only needed to do it in exams, no one actually bothers on the road.

i nearly hit a old guy that was trying to make his way across the street on a zebra crossing while he had green my co-driver pushed the break so hard that i had to restart my car. however, i covered that quite good and it was a crossing where we both had green. than i took a guys right of way(sp) and parked with like 20 kmh (parallel). i still made it because i was the last and the guy that tested me on the back seat was hungry.

also i did some spin courses later where your co-driver pulls the hand brake at random points, was quite interesting to try to get the car back under control. and sort of impossible at speeds above 50 kmh. it was on a special surface that emulates properties the of snow tho

ps: i was not arrested for driving issues yet. B)

Whoop dee doo. Maybe a test that required actual skill would make it harder for assholes to get their license and stop fouling up the road with their idiocy. Oh, and anyone who has an SUV should try that test in one, so that they can roll over and die.

I know how to e-brake drift (Initial-D anyone?), I was wondering why it is *required* in a 3-point turn for a driving test.

I guess with a manual, you might want to do it at the point when you're shifting from reverse to 1st and the road is not flat. I'd probably clutch out to the friction point if I was afraid of rolling back. If you're rolling forward, who cares...that's the direction you want to go in anyway. I'm sure that's probably what everyone does IRL after the exam.

PS Snow + cars = fun.

A well, we have no such thing as using the handbrake in a 3 point turn.

Was funny on the osbournes though when Jack got his license and pretty much the only thing the guy ha to do was use the turning signals, mute the radio (WTF???) and operate the car air conditioning (WTF???^2)

Yeah and what ewan said, automatic, sigh...
