    Still a waste of money

I got an MPIO for $100 from bestbuy, it has the same hard drive space as the Ipod shuffle, also an LCD, radio/radio record function, and lets me select what tracks I want to hear, oh and it's the SAME SIZE as the shuffle, lolol, there is NO reason to get the shuffle unless you just want to show off that you have a mini excuse for a real ipod, and to show that you have the newest hippest mp3 player! omg! so cool! <_<
(ZaBuZa)>sigh.. i been playing this game since i was 8... i am more mature then ull ever be...

I'm with you... Nobody that actually loves music will buy this thing. It's for middle-aged hipsters with too much money and no time to research alternative products so they can load up all their favorite radio singles and let it run commercial free.

Just looked at the shuffle website. What an absolutely hilarious perspective on selling mp3 players without an LCD screen.

"Time to mix things up. Meet iPod shuffle, the unpredictable new iPod. What will it play next? Can it read your mind? Can it read your moods? Load it up. Put it on. See where it takes you."

Are people really going to fall for that? My brain is still laughing. Shuffle is shit.

What model MPIO? All the ones I see on Amazon are $170 for only 256mb.

only apple can take a 2 year old processor, 133mhz bus speed, an ancient graphics card and put it in a box and create so much hype. If Apple put steve jobs' shit in a white acrylic box, i bet it would sell just as well.

The shuffle is garbage too, they took another old idea and packaged it in white plastic and the media is treating it like a revolution...
get a fucking grip, lets not forget that Creative created the first HD jukebox, the BASIS for the ipod. Apple is nothing but a bunch of con-artists.

Started to write a nice post refuting Peesian's sillyness. But instead, just look up the stats of what the hardware he's complaining about can do on a Mac, and how well it can do it. Hopefully the Mac Mini will be a nice big hit and increase Apple's market share by a big margin. I personally would love to see it.

ok, raw clock speed doesnt matter, but the 1.42 ghz G4 chip is ancient and paired with a SLOW clock speed, even for Mac's standards, this is a box of crackers. What im complaining about is what Jobs' actually doing. Regardless of what it is, this is old tech. Capice?

I went to the actual store, BestBuy, not amazon, put on some pants and go outside and look for some in-store sales.

If they want unpredictable they should see my mp3 player. When I add a new song there is a possibility that some of the old songs stop working, they just dissapears from the playlist. Same with the songs I just added.

                      Eph,

I agree with most of what you say, but I still think "Linux is technically average" seems too dismissive. Maybe I'm reading too much into it or maybe you need to qualify in what area your talking about. And I realize that everything is nit-picky when we're giving opinions on sweeping comparisons of different platforms and applications, so I'm trying not to get too bent out of shape.

As for open source, again maybe what you said just needs qualification. I think I'm thinking about things from the user perspective and you're thinking about it from a developer (or from a company's) perspective. As a user on a Windows system, I find there are more open alternatives now than ever before. Before open source was me tinkering on a throw-away Linux box. Now, I find most Windows applications I use have a decent or better open alternative. Again, I'm talking about OpenOffice, Gaim/Miranda, cygwin, openssh... These are apps I consider essentials that I use regularly. I also use Opera, but I hear Firefox is a pretty darn good browser.

Open source at work- my company's internal sourceforge is not for developing our "core competency" or software for our main products. Those things have aggressive schedules and requirements. But our sourceforge does produce tools, etc. and I think it shows that the model does work and people still believe in it.
