  • MS AntiSpyware (BETA)

I've got this from Rab's blog ( http://forums.trenchwars.org/showthread.php?t=16206 ), I think this would be good for everyone to know.

It's Microsoft's own anti spyware program, I've run it and it found stuff Adaware and Spybot S&D didn't find. It seems a pretty powerful utility.

Ignore the BS about only genuine versions of windows can download it, click on it anyway and it gives you a choice to "validate windows" or "don't validate and take me to the download". I have a pirated version of windows and it works fine.

Anyways, I reformatted my computer so I don't have any virus/spyware protection, so I installed this. It's a decent file, and does find alot of viruses, but the huge popup alerts in the bottom right are very annoying and interrupt basic computer work, so I think disabling Real Time scanning and doing a full system scan at midnight every day will be cool

Looks like a good way for MS to find any unlicensed versions of their software.

          agreed

          Invalid Windows Product Key

Unfortunately the key that you used to install Windows matches one on a list of known invalid Product Keys. There are two likely reasons for this:

          1. You do not have a VLA with Microsoft

Windows has been installed on your machine using a Volume License Key. If you or your company do not have a Volume License Agreement (VLA) with Microsoft, then you may be a victim of software piracy. If you suspect your PC reseller of piracy, you can use our online form to Report Piracy Now.

To install a genuine Windows operating system on your machine, and thus obtain a valid Product Key, you may purchase your genuine copy of Windows XP now (US only).

          2. You have a VLA, but are using an old Product Key

If you or your company have a current VLA with Microsoft, then you should have been issued a new Product Key. Please contact your system administrator for help with obtaining a valid Product Key and installing it on your computer.
