i have many hockey cards, baseball cards etc, if my parents see them at yard sales they buy them and i pay them. i'd say i have close to 100 000 cards of many sorts.
I'm kinda anti-collecting. My dad was a child of extreme poverty, so he saves EVERYTHING, regardless how useless, or regardless the level of need.
This is compounded by how completely disorganized he is. His basement, my garage, his garage, and his computer room are filled from bottom to top with boxes full of random crap. Utility bills from the 70's, old position papers, books from his college days, tax records from the mid 80's, etc. He has been telling me for the last two decades that "one of these days" he's going to organize everything.
For example, he has a garage full of random tools, and they are scattered about in piles of old boxes, and the garage is so full that you can barely walk into it.
Two days ago, we are picking oranges off my tree and in the alley he sees an old discarded flat-head screwdriver. He picks it up and puts it in his pocket. I ask him WTH he's doing, and ask him, "Do you really need a screwdriver?" He replies, "No, but it's a good screwdriver!" I point out the fact that he has about a dozen screwdrivers, to which he says, "Don't worry about it, but I'm not gonna just throw away a perfectly good screwdriver!"
I refuse to collect anything out of fear of turning into a pack rat.
