BEIJING, March. 7 --*Some U.S. lawmakers want to make sure the twinkle in your eye doesn't come from jewelry.

Repulsed by a body modification offered at a Dutch institute — where tiny metal hearts and half-moons are surgically embedded in the whites of the eye — one lawmaker has proposed banning the practice in Illinois.

A House committee Thursday approved legislation that would make it a felony to implant jewelry in someone’s eye.

“I don’t think anybody should be messing with the eyeball,” Democratic Rep. Kevin Joyce said Friday.

The procedure involves making a tiny slice in the membrane covering the eye and slipping in a small, flat piece of metal. The result is a shiny shape in the white of the eye. The procedure was performed under local anesthetic.

Dr. Janak Koirala, assistant professor of medicine at Southern Illinois University, said he was concerned about the possibility of infection or other damage — risks that would last as long as the person kept the jewelry in their eye.

“It’s not like piercing the skin,” he said

I just can't see the appeal, and quite frankly, a girl with metal shit in her eyes would scare the crap out of me. Even if it isn't faked, however, the US legislature has not an ounce of business in legislating it.

I don't see how the government can justify making a law against it unless they can show that it's actually really bad for somebody's eye. If it's harmless, how can they say shit about it?

Pfff .. some ppl are against piercings or tattoo's.. some ppl are against eyeball jewelry, but some ppl are in favour of any of that stuff.
So respect others opinions. I'm quite sure that even though Mr.Peanuts doesn't think this is appealing, lots of boys/girls think it actually IS.
So as I'm quite sure there aren't a lot of ppl picking up their phone and calling Mr.Peanuts to ask if something they wanna do looks appealing to him, ppl got diff tastes. I wouldn't mind seeing girls with that stuff in their eyes. Would rather think it's very original. These days lots of ppl wanna be original and different from all the milions and milions of other ppl. So I can understand that they use stuff like this to be original.

I still think having that in your eye would be uncomfortable. You'd feel like you had something stuck in your eye maybe. And what if you rubbed your eye really hard? Would you cut yourself? Or what if you got in a fight and your eye got punched, could it get embedded in your eyeball?

I wear contacts .. You don't notice that you have those in ur eyes neither. And I'm quit sure they thought about it and it's not just a piece of iron or so.. Probably some material which doesn't hurt you and which is quite soft so I'm very sure you can't cut urself. Go look it up on the internet I'd say.

I can't understand is how the legislative body in the u.s. can make a law about that... sounds like worthless and seems more to be the whim of one of those 80 year old ultra conservers.
