There is a guy who plays named We Must Invade Iraq. He makes a point of travelling from pub to pub spamming the arena saying "if you think we must invade Iraq right now type 99." Now that doesn't usually piss me off because I like the whole freedom of speech thing that goes on. What pisses me off is that there are a bunch of ignorant asshole militia lovers who agree with this guy. So I questioned this guy and found out that he is a 14 year old pyscho conservative trying to rally people to support a war for which there is no just cause. What has america's youth come to? I can't stand impressionable youth. Fuck this guy, and fuck his supporters. Anyone who thinks that going into Iraq and fighting a war that has no valid purpose type 99 now...so I know who the biggest idiots in SubSpace are.

As a fan of Orson Scott Card, as you can see from my nickname, I should be a large proponent of the belief that message boards and chat rooms and the like can have an effect on a political / sociological scale. Unfortunately, this is just not the case. The mainstay problem of course is anonymity and the supposed freedom it gives. A person is sitting at a computer, thus they belive they can say and/or do what they want with no consequences. This rings true for most things you can do online, and unless the specific program/chat room you're in has rules (and more importantly if those rules are enforced) as they are in SS with moderators, you're free to masturbate to all the fake celeb teen pr0n you want.
That inherant anonymity that most twits enjoy, also brings their culpability, believability, and the value of their writ down to absolute zero.
You can make a website on geocities, or buy your own domain, or make a chat room in IRC, a thread in a forum, or make a nickname in Subspace, and from those steping points you can say and do pretty much whatever you want, within the limits of the program, and I can assure you, little boys and girls, the internet is such a turbulent morass of bullshit, meaninglessness and absurdity, that whether or not your particular 'message' is, it will have its 0.00000002 seconds in the spotlight of a few people who happen to be using that same forum/chat/game, and then it will flutter away into where all concepts go.
Summed up, you're meaningless, your message/concept is meaningless. Attempting to promote ANY belief online is pointless, and more to the point, fruitless.
You can entertain
You can sicken
You can sell
You can definetly get your jollies off
And you can advertise (yee gods these fukkers love to advertise)
But you wont change the world, or anyone's minds, about ANYTHINGI'm a rocker. I rock out.

I need a post to change my avatar!
Well, lets not forget the fact that more than half of the SSTW players are under 16.
But really, discussing current affairs on a forum like this is truly waste of time.
Personally I perfer to go to national news papers discussion forums for current affair discussion, and come here to look for 'love' and 'affection'

Thats certainly another aspect of it, while I like to think in a democracy its possible to just up and discuss things, in the minds of most players, subspace is like a pub/bar or a theatre production, theres a sign on the door saying "Leave yourself at the door." I suppose forums on news sites, and places like rabble (for Canadians mostly) are hotspots of proper discussion.
My point was, this twat named 'We Must Invade Iraq" may or may not be who and what he said he was, and more often than not its just someone making jokes. I doubt someone would turn to SS pubs to stir a social revolution, and more to the point, theres no need for a revolution pal, Bush represents everything that is wrong with the capitalist structured system; he's ignoring China, and picking a long drawn out conflict with opponent in the mid east who he doesn't understand, comprehend or even consider human beings.... whether they're bad people or not, he under-estimates them, while China slowly does exactly what the Soviets did; catch up technologically.... present a 'crisis' level threat, and the world is split in two again..... Iron Curtains and Lappled Drapes.... but you'll still get your McDonalds and MTV, so dont worry your pretty lil head, you're blessed by nationality.
Damnit, I wrote a lot again.... fuck.I'm a rocker. I rock out.

Maybe I am just sick of threads where there is constant flaming. I want to know what people from other countries think about tings. I'd like to get a different perspective on the world. The media is insanely biased. You should know that "Ms. I have a 165 IQ." I want to know what the opinion is like of other Americans also. I can't just walk down the street and ask them, due to the fact that they would look at me weird and not respond thinking I am going to try and sell them something. On this thread I was hoping for a diverse group of opinions, so I can see what are some key issues that are bothering people, and what some people think, we as a nation <America> should do. That was the purpose of this thread. Sorry that I didn't set up a thread like "Oh man <insert any name in subspace here> is a fucking ASSHOLE!" So that you can pretend to be superior to someone else by comming up with a wittier retort to something they say than someone else can. I am just sick of that for the time being. If you don't like it Tel/Cat/Kitty/C@T then you can easily not partake in posting on this forum. Besides no one likes you anyway, you suck. Happy?
p.s. Louis that was a good post vvvvvv <the one below this one>Last edited by Andy Rooney; 10-27-2002, 12:39 AM.

What Ender said about not being able to change anyone's mind isn't entirely true: I enjoy the internet because it exposes me to a wide variety of views. I like to see what other people think and weigh my views against theirs. It can't hurt. You just have to know how to decide what is bullshit and what is not (by taking everything with a grain of salt). Everyone's opinion is bullshit when it comes down to it.
If the internet can't change anyone's mind, how do "minds" get made in the first place? It's an interesting thing to think about. Do we base our views on the media, on "facts," on our own moral upbringing, or what? "the media" includes the Internet, you know. "The media" is any external source of information, isn't it? A few weeks ago I was watching C-SPAN at 2 in the morning, and this dude from.. emory university I think... made a long speech about the current state of things in this country, and it really did galvanize my views. How is that any different from the internet? It was just some guy who had something to say, yet his speech was so effective that it polarized me.'vet' is the new 'newb'.

Wooo, this is interesting, on one hand you claim you want to know what people from other countries think about things, on the other, you resent at people from other countries for not having the same point of view as yourself
To me, your action is more like looking for recognitions and reenforcement of your own opinion.
What if I tell you the truth that people from lot of countries simply do not care about what your topic?
If you truely want to know what wise peoples opinions are, subscribe to one of those forums sponsored by prestigious newspapers/magazines, where the demographical coverage is much wider than an online game forum.
And if you do not like my posts, don't read them, nobody force you to. Tell you the truth, I come to this forum only because I enjoying chatting people like 'Annux', 'Troll King', 'Dystrophy', 'pv=nrt' and a few others.
BTWWelcome to my ignore list
edit: omg, having someone on your ignore list make some threads look so wierd!Last edited by TelC@t; 10-27-2002, 04:35 AM.Wont die, no surrender 2

Objectivley looking at what I wrote; I have to agree with Louis. There are times when something does effect how we understand and see things, and change our take on a particular subject.
My claim was from the basis that if you're a 14 year old who goes into a video game and randomly polls people in public chats, with the intention of.... whatever this dong was seeking to achieve, you've got a .0002% chance of maybe finding someone to listen to you, and/or take you with any seriousness. You're more often going to find yourself told the following: "stfu." "Play the game." or my fav, and I directly quote: "I'm on a personal mission to kill Bush, and tacticly nuke washington." That one made him leave the pub, toot sweet.Last edited by Ender; 10-27-2002, 04:32 AM.I'm a rocker. I rock out.
