I just don't know what the difference between hip hop and rap is
ie eminem, which one is that?
edit: also the line r n' b/hiphop is kinda diffuse for me.
What comes to genres, I don't pay attention to that. When people ask me what music I listen to, I say good music. It doesn't have to be a specific genre to be good.

conc, thanks for the link, but my stupid work is blocking it.
Your workplace is frightened of the truth. They actively seek to dull your senses and make you a wage slave. Before you know it, you'll be goosestepping to "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and carving arcane symbols into your forehead.
Bail out of that burning plane before it's too late.
Music and medicine, I'm living in a place where they overlap.
That's an extremely short-sighted point of view. Sorry to hear that you haven't heard anyone like Sage Francis, Slug, Mountain Brothers, Lyrics Born, etc.

If it sounds like it was made so that you could have sex to it, that's R n B.
To be honest, I don't really know where the line is between hip hop and rap, I just know that the gangsta stuff doesn't do it for me. I'm not against rapping about guns and hoes and money, but it just seems like most of the time they use that instead of being creative, rather than making creative lyrics about that stuff.
