LOS ANGELES — The U.S. District Court in Oakland, California, has ordered Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and its U.S. unit to pay $90.7 million in damages to Immersion Corp. for patent infringement over controllers used with PlayStation game consoles.

In the ruling handed down Thursday, the federal court also ordered Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Entertainment America Inc. to stop selling the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 game consoles using Dualshock controllers as well as more than 40 game software products. (Kyodo News)

My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

Interesting. I wonder if that's going to force Sony to come up with a new controller design, or if they are going to partner up with Immersion like others apparently have.

It seems like a big deal, since the Dual Shock controller has become very much a part of the PS experience. I wonder how they will respond to this.

Why just Sony anyways? Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Logitech, and more all use the "force feedback" vibrator technology in their products.

Side note: Anyone remember those overly expensive "rumble packs" for the Nintendo 64? I personally found them horribly awesome.

I got mine with my copy of StarFox 64, they were awesome. I think the Rumble Pack was stronger than the Dual Shock, too bad they needed batteries though.

Someone at that site asked the same question, and the response was because some of those other companies, like MS and Logitech for example, have formed partnerships with Immersion.
