I just read an article on Gamespot about this case and it provided a few more details. Firstly, Sony wasn't the only target of the lawsuit. Microsoft was also named but they settled out of court in 2003 for $26 million, but part of that agreement includes Microsoft receiving a 10% share of Immersion.
The $90.7 million decision against Sony was actually $82 million in damages and $7.3 million in interest. The injunction on the sale of PS and PS2 systems, controllers and certain games is currently being appealed and Sony has been granted a stay to continue selling these products until the appeal is settled. The injunction also only affects sales in the United States.
