They weren't put on stage just to perform that Nintendo medley. There are lots of a cappella acts out there, often associated with various universities and they often perform renditions of popular music as well as traditional choral music. Sometimes they throw in a fun song like video game music. One of the best groups is U. Penn's Off the Beat.
