They weren't put on stage just to perform that Nintendo medley. There are lots of a cappella acts out there, often associated with various universities and they often perform renditions of popular music as well as traditional choral music. Sometimes they throw in a fun song like video game music. One of the best groups is U. Penn's Off the Beat. Their clips of Evanescence's Bring Me to Life from their 2003 album and Bush's Machinehead from 2001, and Radiohead's Paranoid Android from 2004 in particular are pretty good.
