What the fucks a channel 4 voter? Channel 4 is available to everyone rich enough to afford a television and license so just about everyone would have seen the trailers, unless there are people out there who have a vendetta against Channel 4 and will never watch for the rest of their life. In that case - yes, 0.01% of the population have been excluded from this survey and the results are null and void

Was every band only allowed one album on that list? Because it seems that Queen should have been on there multiple times... at least with their decent albums. and not the awful "Night at the Opera" one.
Nirvana - Nevermind wasn't half as good as In Utero was.

But I could start by saying: Where the fuck is Nirvana's unplugged album? Sure, Nevermind was good, but the Unplugged In New York is PURE GOLD

Ok, I watch channel 4 and I never saw the ad and it seems like pretty poor logic to assume that everybody in the UK watches channel 4, a good percentage of people don't even have a TV. Also, after briefly looking at the Channel 4 website it seems that the audience was only given the option to vote out of 125 pre-selected albums.

So this is actually 'The Top 100 Greatest Albums out of 125 in the opinion of a panel of "music experts" chosen by a small percentage of the public'

Nirvana shouldn't be even in the top 50, nevermind the top 5. :/

There really are only mainstream rock and pop bands listed there, and I wouldn't take this poll seriously, not for a second.

There are some good artists listed their and some good albums, but it's all the most mainstream and sold out albums of the artists, not actually the best they have released which is kinda off putting.

Im kinda shocked that this was the result of a C4 poll, taken part by a vast number of the British population.

9. GUNS N' ROSES - Appetite For Destruction I get up around 7. Get out of bed around 9. I don't worry 'bout nothin', no, 'cause worryin's a waste of my... time.
10. THE BEATLES - Revolver This album is great. It stays.
11. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People A lot of good songs for the time, but meh, it's REM. Not #11.
12. THE BEATLES - The White Album Dude, it's the WHITE album.
13. QUEEN - A Night at the Opera Meh, The Who should be here.
14. COLDPLAY - Parachutes No, not #14. Probably not even #90.
15. OASIS - (What's the Story) Morning Glory See number 6.
16. ALANIS MORISSETTE - Jagged Little Pill Don't you see? She's just a scorned woman trying to show you that she can't be held back! I don't think this would make my top 100. It's a decent album, just a little too over-produced for my taste.
17. LED ZEPPELIN - Led Zeppelin IV It's Led Zeppelin.
18. THE VERVE - Urban Hymns I didn't like this album.
19. JIMI HENDRIX - Are you Experienced A fantastic album.
20. THE SMITHS - The Queen Is Dead Another fantastic album.
21. JOHN LENNON - Imagine Yep.
22. RADIOHEAD - The Bends Again, I love this album, I just don't think it's #22.
23. BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS - Exodus Most likely, the first time you heard recognizable reggae, it was Bob Marley. Represent.
24. THE STONE ROSES - The Stone Roses Maybe I just didn't give this album enough attention.
25. SIMON AND GARFUNKEL - Bridge Over Troubled Water It's good.
26. BJORK - Debut I remember thinking that this album was crazy as hell when it first came out. I actually like it now. Maybe not #26, but not below #50.
27. THE DOORS - The Doors Yeah, I'd agree for the most part.
28. ABBA - Arrival I have this ex-girlfriend who's obsessed with ABBA. Therefore, I still have a gag reflex to any mention of them. Off the charts.
29. MICHAEL JACKSON - Off the Wall I actually don't think I've ever heard this.
30. DURAN DURAN - Rio I'm almost too young to understand the implications of what this album did, but I agree that it's a solid album. Maybe not #30 though.
31. SEX PISTOLS - Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols Stays.
32. DAVID BOWIE - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Needs to be higher.
33. THE BEACH BOYS - Pet Sounds Needs to be higher.
34. JOY DIVISION - Closer Needs to be higher.
35. THE ROLLING STONES - Let It Bleed Stays.
36. BLUR - Parklife Haven't given it a go.
37. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - Born to Run I liked Born in the USA better (don't fucking front on "I'm on Fire" or "I'm Goin' Down", I'll punch you in the throat). Maybe replace this with that.
38. BILLIE HOLIDAY - Lady Sings the Blues The woman could sing. Maybe down a few notches.
39. THE WHITE STRIPES - Elephant It's good, don't get me wrong, I just think it's a little too soon to say it's #39.
40. BLACK SABBATH - Paranoid Caused some stirrings. Probably should stay.
41. THE SPECIALS - Specials No great exposure to this album.
42. THE ROLLING STONES - Exile on Main Street My personal favorite Stones album. Should be higher, in my highly-slanted opinion.
43. FRANK SINATRA - Songs for Swingin' Lovers! The man was a genius of his own time. A true OG. Stays.
44. THE CLASH - London Calling Should be higher.
45. THE PRODIGY - The Fat of the Land Get this off my top 100. I appreciate it, it just doesn't make the cut.
46. THE VELVET UNDERGROUND - The Velvet Underground and Nico Good stuffs. Stays or goes higher.
47. DIRE STRAITS - Brothers in Arms Another one like Duran Duran that I was just on the cusp of listening to. Don't think this would make my top 100.
48. PIXIES - Doolittle Stays.
49. ARETHA FRANKLIN - I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You Stays.
50. THE LIBERTINES - The Libertines F this. This album wouldn't make my top 100. Up the Bracket would, however.
51. HAPPY MONDAYS - Pills 'N' Thrills and Bellyaches No exposure to this album.
52. PATTI SMITH - Horses Haven't listened to it enough to give a solid opinion.
53. THE WHO - Tommy The first Who entry is 53, and it's Tommy? I'd replace this with Live at Leeds and move it up a bit.
54. LOU REED - Transformer Great album. Stays.
55. BOB DYLAN - Blood on the Tracks Most probably would be higher.
56. PRINCE - Sign 'o' the Times Everyone keeps saying this is THE Prince album. I say stuff that--give me Purple Rain instead here, any day.
57. DIDO - No Angel Oh come on. She's hot, and she sings well. She's a decent songwriter. She's not top 100 ever.
58. AIR - Moon Safari Not enough exposure.
59. ELTON JOHN - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Meh, it's okay.
60. THE JAM - All Mod Cons Not enough exposure.
61. JEFF BUCKLEY - Grace Sure, I'd let this stay.
62. FLEETWOOD MAC - Rumours Sure.
63. MOBY - Play Moby's boring to me. Off my top 100, suckass
64. RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - Blood Sugar Sex Magik My first concert ever. It's a hell of an album, and should probably stay, although I like Mother's Milk better.
65. THE POLICE - Synchronicity Probably stays. Sting's a great pop songwriter.
66. JONI MITCHELL - Blue Stays.
67. CURTIS MAYFIELD - Superfly Should be higher.
68. ELVIS PRESLEY - The Sun Sessions I've never really appreciated Elvis further than the "father of rock n' roll" mantle that's kind of been placed on him (although I don't necessarily agree with that assessment).
69. OUTKAST - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below IT'S NOT THEIR BEST ALBUM. I'd probably replace this with either Aquemini or Stankonia, and move it down about 10 notches or so.
70. PULP - Different Class No idea.
71. KRAFTWERK - Trans-Europe Express No idea.
72. MASSIVE ATTACK - Blue Lines Pretty damn good album. Would be around 90-100 on my list.
73. BECK - Odelay Replace this with Midnight Vultures.
74. STEVIE WONDER - Songs in the Key of Life Needs to be higher.
75. KATE BUSH - Hounds of Love Off my top 100.
76. TALKING HEADS - Fear of Music Stays.
77. EMINEM - The Marshall Mathers LP Wouldn't make my top 100.
78. MARVIN GAYE - What's Going On Needs to be a little higher.
79. GEORGE MICHAEL - Faith Nope.
80. SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER - The Original Movie Soundtrack I understand the impact it had, but it wouldn't be on my list.

I have an idea the pre-selected albums were already voted for by the public as this program was a culmination of a series, but I never watched this series. I'm going to list albums that I'm surprised aren't on that list at all:

Pearl Jam - Ten

Yeah yeah blah blah my name on here is Pearl Jam of course I'd list this, but come on now; no matter how much you hate Eddie Vedder and his goat voice, the writing, storytelling and music on this album is excellent. To say this album wasn't stacked with classic songs is an understatement - Evenflow? Alive? Jeremy? Black? It deserves a generous spot on that list.

My opinion: A spot anywhere from 15-25.

Pearl Jam - Vs.

This album is always overlooked in nearly any "Definitive best album list" because it is always in Ten's shadow despite the fact that there were just as many huge hits on this album as there was on Ten; songs like Daughter, Animal, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town and Glorified G should make this album a solid contender on that list.

My opinion: Anywhere in the 50's.

Tool - Aenima

I am by no means a huge Tool fan, but it's either this or Undertow that belongs on that list. Despite the fact that he's a creepy fuck, Maynard James Keenan is a hell of a songwriter and the band are all damn fine musicians. I don't really have a truckload of reasons why this album should be on there, I just know it should- if nothing else, the fact that Tool has so many super-hardcore-diehard fans should be a testament to their talent.

My opinion: Anywhere from 60-75.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood

Are you fucking kidding me? No SRV? Alright, so he wasn't a lyrical mastermind...who fucking cares! He more than made up for his lack of lyrical prowess by breaking down the 4th wall of your mind with his insane blues guitar playing. Listen to nearly any song on this album and you will clearly understand why to this day he IS considered a demigod of Texas Blues. 5 and 6 minute songs of always-changing, always-fresh wailing blues guitar is incredibly easy on the ears. Despite the fact that he was only in the public spotlight for a little over a decade or so, he is considered to be among the greatest guitarists ever...and that's some pretty fucking elite company to be in.

My opinion: Early 30's.

Weezer - The Blue Album

Like Tool, I'm not a giant Weezer fan...but come on. I don't know a single person that won't belt out the chorus to "Say It Aint So" when presented with the opportunity.

My opinion: Not real sure where exactly to place this, so I'm going to cop out and give it a really wide range- I'd say anywhere from 20-50.

The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole

This album came out around the same time of Prodigy's "Fat Of The Land" and made equally as big of an impact. There are only a select few electronic albums in the mid 90's that are responsible for thrusting the entire genre into the public spotlight; Dig Your Own Hole is one of them. Even if you despise techno, try to appreciate the fact that this album (much like Fat of the Land and Fatboy Slim's "You've Come a Long Way, Baby" played a large part in introducing electronic music to the world.

My opinion: Mid 30's.

Daft Punk - Homework

Same deal as "Dig Your Own Hole", except not as solid of an all-around album.

My opinion: 80's.

Other thoughts concerning the list:
1. Sorry Conc, but I think Odelay is better than Midnite Vultures. Some of the songs just got too much radio play/exposure, which may drain on some people.

2. De La Soul - Three Feet and Rising - needs to be A LOT higher (probably somewhere from 10-20). It presented a laid back hip hop approach when almost anything else having to do with rap at the time dealt strictly with gangstas, 2pac, Dr. Dre, big screen tvs, blunts, 40's and bitches. Meanwhile, De La Soul rapped about how 3 was the magic number.

3. Pete Rock and CL Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother - same type of deal as De La Soul, except this album got little to no public exposure. These two go together like peanut butter and jelly, though - the beats are solid and CL's lyricism is always right on cue. A positive vibe pulses through this entire record in songs like "Ghettos of the mind", "For Pete's Sake" and "Return of the mecca"...something that couldn't be found in 90% of rap albums in the early to mid 90's. Deserves a spot on that list, even if it's #100.

4. Nas - Illmatic - It's a shame that the only record where Nas truly displayed he was a master lyricist was his very first one. Even with that aside, this is one of the few rap albums that both mainstream and underground hip hop enthusiasts can agree on as being fantastic (THE LIST IS VERY SHORT). Deserves a fairly solid spot on that list.

5. Yeah, Outkast's Aquameni is A LOT better than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

6. No Beastie Boys? At all?

7. No Modest Mouse? At all?

8. I think Daft Punk's "Homework" and "Discovery" both belong on the list.

9. Oasis's "What's the Story, Morning Glory" deserves to be on that list, albeit MUCH LOWER. Definitely Maybe, though? What? No?

I'll post more thoughts as they cross my mind.

EDIT: Verthanthi brought to my attention that Boards of Canada "Music has the right to children" definitely belongs on there.
