I wouldn't take much offense to it Jeenyuss. We wouldn't be in this mess in my opinion if the Bloc didn't already use anti Canadian junk to gain a power base, thus making the need for a national unity program like this. Yeah, they're not being investigated but if you want to find the source of all of this.. it's right there.
The Toronto star was saying last week that david Kilgour was jumping sides a lot. I wish Harper would hold off until the budget it passed at least because people need affordable housing, kyoto needs to be funded and cities and towns all over need the money for vitial programs. Hate the liberals all you want, even if you don't have all the infromation yet it's a free country but think of the people you're representing first.Last edited by Kolar; 04-29-2005, 01:43 AM.

People who vote NDP usually do it for local reasons.
I will vote Liberal.... if for no other reason than to give the Stephen Harper Parade a lesser chance. Do we really want a bunch of redneck, racist idiots leading the country? Will Thom Yorke ever cheer up? - ZeUs!!!

*Bump*
With last week's procedural vote on the the Liberals to resign and the official budget vote (and potential non-confidence vote) on Thursday, a shocking blockbuster defection occurred today with noted Conservative MP and a contender for the Tory leadership in 2004, Belinda Stronach (MP for Newmarket-Aurora and someone who has been called the Canadian Hilary Clinton) left the party to join the Liberals and become the new minister of Human Resources and Skills Development. Her decision to leave the Tories is based on her view that Harper's drive for an immediate election is not in the best interests of the nation. One of the more centrist Tories, Stronach's views often clashed with those of Tory leader Steven Harper. This defection will deal a serious blow to the Tories who, despite consistant attacks on the Liberals' corruption woes, have already been seeing a drop in the polls.
As for how this will affect the budget vote, Stronach's defection gives the Liberals (with the NDP's assistance) 151 votes versus the Tory-BQ coalition's 152. The result of Thursday's vote will rest on the three Independant votes and on whether or not the three MPs receiving cancer treatment are well enough to attend.

The big budget vote and two non-confidence votes will be held within the hour. I'm not sure if people are aware of how important and historic this vote could be. There won't likely ever be as close a series of votes in the House of Commons as there will be tonight Even beyond the pure politics of the situation, there are elements of drama, intrigue, conspiracy and romance attached to this. Even if you aren't Canadian, it would still be an interesting study just to see how things will work out tonight.

Well, the budget has passed.
I'm really mixed on this issue. I don't like the fact that the government can't get anything done these days because the talk is either about being pushed out of power or about the sponsorship scandal. I don't trust the Liberals but I also don't want to see an election or the Conservatives in power.

We would have a liberal majority or minority most likely if an election was forced . I think the Conservities will back off a bit, they promised a truce if this went through. I think there's more of a chance now in December for the conservitives to take power so I think the Liberals might decide to call a spring or summer election if the polls look good and if the Canadian Population can forget the word "scandal" for 5 minutes and focus on the real issues.

The wild card in that scenario, and often in most others as well, is the Bloc Quebecois. The Tories might let up after tonight's results but I think the Bloc will continue to hound the Grits. Harper might find himself forced to go along if Duceppes pushes too hard. The biggest winner in all this is probably the NDP. With their amendments, this would technically be the first federal NDP budget, of course, they do have to share a hyphen with the Grits. The NDP's popularity in the latest polls were higher than they have been for over a decade and polls also say that right now, Jack Layton is the most popular among the party leaders. All of that despite holding just 19 seats in the House. They might be the smallest dog in the fight, but they've sure got one hell of a bite.
For those who didn't follow the vote or its significance, the House of Commons vote on the Liberal-NDP budget amendment came down to a dramatic tie as many expected, leaving the Speaker of the House who reserves his vote to break the tie in favour of the Liberals. These results were the culmination of two key moves: a) Indendant MP Chuck Cadman (and former Conservative) voted with the Liberals and b) Belinda Stronach's defection provided the numbers to line up as a tie. While Cadman was expected to follow his constituents' input and support the government, it was Stronach's surprise move that turned the tide.
Tonight's vote was historic because it was the first, and likely the only ever time, that a confidence vote ended in a tie with the Speaker holding the deciding vote.
