  • Einstein.

After talking to a few americans it seems to me that theres a wide conception in USA that Albert Einstein was an american.

To me this is pretty.. shocking.

What do the americans on this board belive? Was Einstein an american?

Well he was born in Germany obviously.... what are you saying? Are you saying

    A. Americans are dumb and don't realize Einstein wasn't born in America, and you're shocked that people aren't aware of this.

    or

    B. Americans think Einstein is American because even though he was born in Germany, he then moved to America and thus became an American, and you think this is an outrage.

Omg Horny Elf just zinged us Americans yet again! It's too bad, though, that I don't realize this since I'm obviously a complete fucktard due to my nationality.

I'm not sure if he was zinging us or not, he's not very coherent.

I mean it seemed at first he was zinging us, but then he asks if we think Einstein was an American, after just telling us he wasn't, which makes no sense to do unless what he's really doing is arguing some semantic issue of what it is to be an American.

          Christ, guys.
It was just a question. I could understand if you believed this, but i wouldnt agree. This is one of the biggest men to ever live and he happened to be a german. We all know that the winners of the war is the one to write history, i was just wondering how far the "brainwashing*" had gone in the states.

Prejudices towards germans were at an alltime high (understandably) after WW2 in the rest of Europa aswell as the US.

But Europa hasnt tried to take Einstein from them.

*brainwashing is a horrible word here, but i couldnt find a better one atm. Propaganda maybe?

He put knots on the corners of his napkin to make a hat on sunny weather when he was on vacation. Said it always thrilled him to see a flat surface turn into a bent one.

From the thing linked, he recieved American citizenship in 1940 (although he also retained his swiss citzenship), and he lived and worked in the United States.

Okay, maybe some of you aren't familiar with US ideology, but we're a nation RENOWNED for immigration. We have monuments built around the idea that people from other areas of the world can come to the US and become americans within their lifetimes. Okay, so maybe Einstein was born in Germany, but that would not stop him from becoming an American.

If you asked Einstein what he was, I bet he'd tell you he was a "citizen of the world" or something, but as far as anyone in the United States is concerned, he was as much an American as anyone else in the United States.

What's really shocking to me, is the antiquated notion of nationalities Europeans cling to. Especially with the rise of the EU, I would've thought the mindset was becoming more... cosmopolitan? I guess the bad soccer blood runs pretty deep huh?

                              Well this is funny.

USA is currently one of the countries in the world where its hardest to get in. You need electronic passes, a clean sheet, a visum, a green card if you want to stay more than a few months etc etc. You get assinvaded if you look
slighty arab or happend to be a muslim.

This does this fit the US-ideology of immigration ?

And that last part. Thats ironic, comming from one of the most nationalist states in the world. GOD BLESS AMERICA !!
