I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I bet if you asked Einstien during the war if he'd rather consider himself an American or A German, he'd pick American. Despite what your narrow definition of national identity affords, some people acctually adopt the nation they imigrate to as their own. Though first generation immigrants to any country hold some love and attachment to their homeland, the fact remains they probably had a very good reason to leave. In Einstien's case, the Germany he left was nothing to be proud of, and might even be offended if you tried to associate him with Hitler's Reich.

The americans you questioned, did they claim he was born in America? That would be wrong obviosuly, but if they merely claimed he "was an American", then you're just arguing semantics and looking for a high platform from which you may condescend from. There is also the posibility they told you that just to piss you off, since it is ghastly and appauling to you that possibly your world view might be just as distorted as those damn ignorant yanks.

Oh and before you make a sarcastic jab at how fake our immigration policy is, keep in mind most countries at the time didn't allow ANY jewish immigrants during that time. Guess that means the rest of the world is just as flawed and apathetic as America, if not more so.
