This isn't something I want to hand out a ton of bans or warnings for people, so lets talk about this.

Image leeching is when you post or direct link to an image on webspace that you don't control. This is particularly bad when you use the img tags to make it load whenever anyone views a thread here. Webspace, beyond a certain point, isn't free, so in essence you're stealing from the hoster by doing this. Also, if you link to, say, screenshots of a game on a magazine's webspace, you're probably bypassing the ads they use to pay for the content you're taking. In essence, you're stealing from them twice.

On top of that, many admins will replace the leeched image with something innapproriate, and that could land you a sick-shit ban.

So what's the alternative? Well, there are several sites that will let you load an image for forum display. Here's a couple:

Or if you go to a university, you probably have webspace available to you. Most ISPs also provide webspace for use.

So, now you know, and no one's going to end up getting banned over something so simple as hosting their own images.

in some cases sites are happy to have you use IMG in forums, like the book cover image i once had in my thread about a book, plus i gave link to site. also hedweb sites i did it with, he has gigs and gigs and gigs and loves it when people posts his essays.

however since everyone cant have good judgement on whats good use of IMG on sites you dont own, i suppose youd rather just keep it too using free hosts and uploading

certain things are an exception to this rule right? like if the domain is yahoo cache which has massive transfer and not like somones personal site?
