It was a live grenade but didn't go off because the guy who threw it wrapped it in a hankerchief (there's a word I have no idea how to spell), I guess to disguise it so he could get it into the crowd. Apparenly lots of people were able to just go around the metal detectors they set up. Anyway the cloth got caught up in the pull thingie or something and lessened the impact so it wasn't enough to set the grenade off (yeah I don't really know exactly how hand grenades work besides pull the pin and throw it, but apparently there's more to it). Anyway, yeah.
