"Aesthetics" is the British and Commonwealth spelling, "esthetics" is the American variation. Like with many other examples, Noah Webster wanted to create a simpler (some say lazier, some say less redundant) system of spelling and his dictionary was adopted as the source for American spelling. One of the changes he pushed for was to use "e" instead of "ae". You see the same thing with the word "encyclopedia", or "encyclopaedia".Comment

i think i've seen that used before, but it was on an old encyclopaedia. pretty sure all the newer ones use "ae"Comment

What I meant was if they used it with either an "æ" or an "ae" or if it's spelt with just an "e" as in "encyclopedia".Comment
