ha ha while googling for pics of belfast i came across a blog of some random guy who had this to say about it while he back packed around ireland

Belfast really stuck me as being kind of sad. I didn't take hardly any pictures of it. In America, I think we are under the impression that most of the troubles are over and done but there's still razor wire and spike coloms everywhere and everything is so divided. The police vehicles are just plain creepy. They look like something out of MadMax. It really stuck me that most of the Republican murals where memorials to people who where killed while most of the Loyalist murals where of guys with machine guns wearing balaclavas or of knights with swords. Maybe it was just what I saw - a bad sampling, I walked through the west and south ends of the city.

kind of true, i've always thought it must be wierd to see army, machine guns and armour plated police vans (meat weagons) out on the streets and ppl walking by as if it was normal, cuase at one point that was normal when you grew up here >< dont see the army aout and about as much these days , yay
