  • Chess- it's not a sport

Anyone here play Chess? Anyone interested in an online correspondance type game? Drop me an IM.

In other news, Chess is recognized by the Olympic Committee as a sport (no idea what they think they're doing over there, besides maybe trying to make more money):

Wushu is a form of kung fu which is practiced by tens of millions in China. It's the style that Jet Li uses (he was a 4-time Chinese national champion in it in fact).

orienteering is when you get out in a wood or something and you're supposed to find controls and shit and make a course with only basically using a compass and a somewhatlikish map :P

Netball is Basketball for women, you can't dribble the ball (gotta stand still when you have it)

                  Throughout time, there’s been
                  crimes, throughout our history
But not as great, as the one of late, affecting you and me
Once a nation proud and free, and now we’re weeping sorrow’s tears
Tragedy’s approaching, it’s worse than all your fears

                  Come on my countrymen
Come on and take a stand
Don’t let ‘em take away your land

                  the Wenger bus is coming
and all the kids are running
                  from London to Manchester
                  cos he's a child molester

Online correspondance game? You mean like just playing online at Yahoo, or do you mean like...you email me a move like King to J3, or something...

Btw, does anyone play backgammon online? I like the game, but I'm a really mediocre player. I'd be happy to play someone sometime.

Correspondance as in moves take 1-2 days and a game takes a couple of months. It's easier than real time because you only need to devote a couple minutes per day and I'm a busy guy with places to go.

If you're interested forum pm me and we can work out details. I don't know why I said IM me in the first post. I meant forum PM.

Well, it depends on what your definition of sport is.

Chess is definitely very competitive and requires a fair amount of physical endurance (especially if it's a long match).

Well, if you mind playing against a terrible player, then I'm not a good candidate. I have played chess 3 times in the last 10 years. But I used to enjoy playing as a kid.

I would like to play, though. Still interested?

                              Sent a forum pm, yo.

I'm pretty lenient in my definition of a sport but Chess is going too far. It's more SAT than NBA.

                              Ho ho, I'm funny.
