should drug companies be responsible of you crush pills and put it in peoples drinks?

should gun companies be responsible if you shoot someone when your own life was not threatened?

the ruling is wrong because the programs are not specifically made for illegal sharing, they are made as clients of ANY file sharing and the user is responsible for what exactly is being shared

An example of how even once "cool" record labels turn to shit, when they think they are losing even the slightest amount of control. Apple Records having sued Apple computer for the third time. The tables are somewhat turned this time around, and I wouldn't be that surprised to see Steve Jobs simply get Apple Computer to buy out Apple Records.

I personally would like to see it happen. Because then it would be nice to see Apple change the music business the way I think they want to, but are hampered by via the former settlements and by Apple Records. With unrestrained trade imagine with the iPod and iTunes, and you have Macs with GarageBand, just imagine iTunes offering seller accounts, you the individual make music, say in GarageBand, upload your song, and sell it through iTunes, say a 50/50 share for each sale of your song. Apple makes money, Individual people can become artists, the whole bit. Just imagine how much record companies would hate THAT. No longer needing to be "discovered", or to sign and agree to their shitty contracts just to be heard.

It's a kind of future that would kick ass, and to get mad about it, all you really have to do, is look around at what exactly it is holding it back. Rich old fuckers in suits.

And by the way, if you look at Tone's post, it's really fucking scary, because it's quite possibly one of the only times I've seen him post his own words, and be absolutely 100% correct legally, technically, and factually. I figure Jesus ought to be making his second coming any second now.

I don't mean to pick on tone specifically but to everyone who's said this: people DO sue (and win against) gun companies over shootings and such

I think they should be, if they sell a drug with the slogan "Makes date rape fun and easy!" or a gun that's "Great for putting holes in your neighbor's face!" it's one thing to provide a service that could be used illegally.. it's another to provide one and encourage those illegal uses.

it's a shame that SCOTUS appointments are for life.

We better shut down the internet, close all telephone networks, mobile phone networks, shoot down the satellites and forbid the making of radio waves. Make flashlights illegal too while we're at it.

Yeah, that would do the trick.

if you actually read the majority opinion, you'd see that this ruling is a lot more narrow and contentious than it looks on the surface, and that it doesn't actually decide anything. way to overreact, though.

If the stuff is out there, and if there are programs that allow you to rip music, games and such, then I believe the developers should be to blame.

                        Its human nature to take.

The outcome of this case, is why weapons were banned in the US.. right?

Maybe they first should cut on their crappy artists that need billions of editting and promotion only to sell alot of records later :S
There is enough artists that are actually good enough to just tape in a bathroom and send over the internet. Who the fuck are we paying for?

I've had a convo with friends some time ago. Found out we were different in a few ways. Here's mine:

I said that I download stuff because other people do. If nobody could download music/games/something for free I wouldn't mind buying it since every one else would buy it too if they wanted to use it.

Well shit. Supreme Court rules against filesharing.

                              http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/21...od-piracy-file

"This decision will not kill P2P sharing," said Cory Doctorow, European affairs co-ordinator at US pressure group the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

"Engineering students write P2P software in 11 lines of code as class assignments. The majority of internet users use file-sharing software, and that's not going to stop, no matter how many lawsuits against customers and companies the labels win."
                              I sure hope not.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.
