  • War of the Worlds *SPOILERZ*

Can everyone agree this will win awards, in my opinion this is one of the sickest movies i have ever seen, ever.

But i do have a question, what did happen at the end when the Samuel L. Jackson'ish voice said that stuff about the littlest things beating the martians(the water on the leaf), can someone thoroughly explain that, i was very very confused.

Feel free to express opinions as well

Cinderella Man should win more awards, it was a better movie.

I think he was talking about how since the Earth is so new to the Martians that if they were exposed to anything so contrasted from the Martians they would he harmed in some way, whether in diseases or sickness etc. I think he was kinda foreshadowing when the Martians were defeated (they came out of the submarines to celebrate a victory but they fall prey to diseases from the Earth which they have never been exposed to).

        Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well I'll take an example from our history.

When the Europeans came from Europe into North America, they carried diseases which they themselves were immunized from after adapting to it from hundreds of years. However, when they started to reconcile with the Natives in North America, they started to spread the disease they had which the Natives were not immunized from. Thus, many Native people were killed because they had a lack of exposure to it and weren't immunized.

Now the way Samuel L. Jackson explained it is the same concept as this, except totally different worlds.

The Earth, as we know it, carry many diseases that are harmful to species as a whole in hundreds of ways. But since humans have existed for a long time, we tend to not be affected by these diseases because we have adapted with it. In the War of the Worlds, the water on a leaf is a totally new substance to the aliens. Like the europeans, the "water on a leaf" might be carrying a disease that we aren't affected by, but the aliens may react to the water on the leaf because they've never been exposed to it. Like an allergic reaction, the alien body would probably think it's a dangerous substance since it's not familiar with it and harm the alien.

The martians are defeated by the littlest things: bacteria and airbourne viruses. They had exterminated all disease on their world, succumbed to earths diseases. The original war of the worlds makes that much clear.

Sooo, is there any part of the book they kept in the movie? Apart from the fact they were from Mars (and the disease).

Its not originally a book, its originally a radio show. As in, story read over radio. (radio journal from pov of protagonist) You should be able to get the cassetes from local library.
Its partly musical. They sing a bit.

Yes you are all in for a treat, one of the best movies of the year easily. And yeah they didn't explain that they were martians but it is very intense and suspensful, you'll feel right in the middle of it.

Like when he steals the car and the fucking car owner's like dude get out of the car while the aliens right behind him your like RUN WHITIE RUN
