Well, I think that with his vision he's better suited for centre than the wing. Plus, that will give him a chance to centre between Lemieux and Recchi.

Malkin's another centre like Crosby though, and I'm not sure if they want either rookie to begin their NHL careers out of position. I don't think Malkin has committed to playing in the NHL this season yet, though it would seem more likely for him to want to if Crosby will be there.

He's under contract in Russia and there was some worry that they wouldn't be able to buy his contract and pry him away from Russia. Apparently there was some new deal between the NHL and Russia though this year, which should enable the Pens to buy out Malkin's contract relatively cheaply and get him into the NHL. So he should be coming. And by all indications he's ready to play in the NHL.
