Dell vs. Acer, which one should I buy?

So I'll be needing a laptop to take with me while studying abroad..

My eyes fell on the Dell Inspiron 6000 and the Acer Aspire 3022 WMLi Sempron

Both notebooks are more or less of the same price, and have more or less the same specs.

2 question from me to you guyz,

What do you guyz think of the quality difference between Dell and Acer, if there is any?

What do you guyz think of the eternal discussion between Intel and AMD processors.. Is there really a difference?

What I'm looking for is experiences, both good and bad, with both brands.

Also, feel free to suggest any other popular notebooks i might be missing. My main demands are 60 gig hd, decent graph. card, Wireless internet (preferably internal), good battery

A friend of mine, Stephanie, she bought herself an Acer laptop and she never has problems with it at the lans and stuff that she always brings it to.

My cousins have Dell laptops, and they didn't have problems either. So I think what the key is, is the price comparison. What you want for what price you'll get.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--there's nothing wrong with Dell that isn't wrong with any other major OEM. Nothing at all.

I've worked in several companies that all used Dell. Never had any major problems with them at all (and both companies had literally hundreds of Dell machines (workstations, servers, laptops). Although maybe things have changed in the last few years.

If you're open minded, you could get an Apple iBook for $1061 (with education discount) meeting your criteria (60GB HDD, 32MB ATI graphics card, built in WiFi and Bluetooth, DVD/CD-RW drive).

Acer's laptops are getting better and better. I'm using one right now ...Travelmate 370.

You should buy a generic computer and not pay a middle man since theres no such thing as a brand of computer. a computer is modular, there is a brand of CPU, a brand of motherboard, a brand of CD rom. The name is useless. Dells might cost more money so they can pay for their TV Commercials, is that why you want to pay more for them, to make up for the price of marketing?
