1. The main reason is security. IE has many known security holes that remain unpatched. That means, hackers know about it, Microsoft knows about it, the hole is still there.

IE has unpatched holes rated "Highly critical". 20 out of 85 Secunia advisories, is marked as "Unpatched" in the Secunia database.
2. Features. You may or may not want some of the features available in the other browsers. There are a lot of great features in Opera I use all the time. But if you're like many of my family and friends who just want a simple browser, Firefox installs and imports bookmarks easily and seems to be very compatible with most sites. (Opera does as well but it's different enough that I think FF is easier to just install and start using without having to "learn" a new kind of browser.)
3. Ideology. This is a real reason for me. I was just starting college when the graphical browser started to become popular and the internet as we know it was born. It was based on open standards written so any person could create a page to share information to be displayed on any browser- be it text-only, unix, Windows, anything.
Microsoft has been found by courts in more than one country to have illegally used their OS monopoly to make their browser the dominant browser. They have also purposefully added IE specific HTML to break the open standards and create a new de-facto standard after they gained market dominance. Coding HTML by hand was common then and I saw it happening as HTML was transformed into something that didn't work in every browser. This is what creates the problems like what DTF is seeing on the SBC web page.
Having a monopoly is *not* wrong. Using the monopoly to gain market share in another area is unfair. Breaking open standards to create problems for users is so wrong.

(but i cant understand what pages you are browsing. i cant think of any pages i visit that doesnt support opera..)
i see people here say opera cost money. well, if you want remove the nearlynoexisting adds, you can pay for it. if you want to support opera, you can pay for it.. on my monitor (1600x1200) the add is close to 1cm high and very white. when i say very white, it means its no add there..
ff might be easier to learne for new users, but here we are talking about a few days, then opera is like the browser you used all your life.
btw, what page is that picture from? i just typed in yahoo's url, and there was no problem for opera to see any page from yahoo..Last edited by eehh; 08-31-2005, 01:26 PM.Throughout time, there’s been

Tragedy’s approaching, it’s worse than all your fears
Come on my countrymen

I've been using Opera since yesterday and I like it. It is faster, but the toolbar is not as customizable as FF is. I get a much slimmer toolbar profile and can group the address bar up together with the regular toolbar where the "file, edit, view, bookmark...etc" buttons are.
I dunno. If I had anything smaller than a 19" monitor I wouldn't use it, because of the wasted space.
Maybe I just haven't figured out how to work it, so if someone has any suggestions, let me know.

It has all the links that I use on it along with Movie Times, Headlines from the papers and websites I read and my mail.
If I don't get that, Opera doesn't get my business.Originally posted by Jeenyusssometimes i thrust my hips so my flaccid dick slaps my stomach, then my taint, then my stomach, then my taint. i like the sound.

Internet Explorer has waaayyy too much vulnerabilities. Opera isn't really recognized in the Online Community so you well see some sites that aren't compatible with it. Firefox is recognized, has hardly any vulnerabilities, is configurable (opensource), and has those neat little extras. I use all of it's features it's a great program. Those who bash it most likely haven't tried it , or didnt have the patience to learn to use it properly.

my.yahoo.com works for me in Opera on Mac (didn't try Windows). I probably have the "default" layout though.
sbc.yahoo.com works in Opera on Mac and Windows.
Opera is waaaay configurable. For all the toolbars you can right-click->Customize Toolbars and drag and drop any button or field, change it's placement, etc. There are skins you can download- with different button sets, sizes, etc. You can hand edit the menus (most of the preferences, etc. are text files that you can hand modify like crazy to get any menu to do anything). It's way more configurable than anyone could ever completely use.
I'd actually recommend not going *too* crazy with it because sometimes things change slightly from one major release to another. Although you can avoid upgrading. I used Opera 6 for a long time. Of course geeks are known for a fondness of spending hours tweaking things just right so you may not be able to help yourself (if you are so inclined).

I bet I could school you in counter-strike using this config. But you would just call me a fat-ass, over a fucking browser or whatever this original bitch was about. But anyhow, Firefox is still better, and you need to go get laid.Girl if it's alright,

mozilla is the best. bar on top can be much slimmer than in opera and i can put small icons there which connect to my favorite sites and with this plugin (chatzilla) if i see some irc address i can just connect there with mozilla it automatically find server and channel(s).
Btw I'v seen some program which is like Mozilla but there is those things from opera like when u move mouse really fast it does something.
