So our rights are infringed upon even more four years after 9/11. While I realize the magnitude of the charges and potential danger of these people, we still do have rights and sometimes the government is wrong.

Well I don't know about you but I don't have any intention to use a dirty bomb any time soon, so I'm pretty safe from this law. However, I'll agree with the whole freedom further restriction thing, even though the only affect any of this has had on me has been this EU thing to record data transfer for a year.

That's not the point. I realize that probably nobody here will be accused of such a crime without some sort of basis but detaining someone indefinitely is still against the Constitution and infringes on our rights.

It's more about the potential abuse of power than the actual one. It's a tough issue, that's why I posted it. I'm not saying I necessarily totally disagree with the decision.

IIRC, it was shown that he had several close ties to al queda. If you don't wanna go to jail don't hang out with enemy #1.

It makes sense to sentence somebody before a trial and the ONLY thing on the table is accusations? Let's try to get away from the magnitude of the accusations because I think we'll all agree there these people could be really dangerous. The point is that they are being sentenced to an indefinite prison sentence (illegal in itself in the US) before being tried (also illegal).

EDIT: And there's nothing wrong with conservatives. Most of my views are more left-leaning though. Read the Rehnquist thread to understand why I said that.
