questions:
1. if you drove a fixer-upper porsche where the bumper needs to be replaced, you were in your thirties with a real job, and a unemployed kid ran into your car and put a tiny dent in the already fucked up bumper, would you fuck him over and make him replace it?
2. if you drove a porsche, and you lent it to your friend, who wasnt insured to drive your porsche, and he parked it right behind some unemployed kids car, and he hit it, would the kid be liable, or you, because you didnt park your car where it got hit?
3. if the answer to two is "the owner of the porsche is liable" how many car insurance policies automatically cover unrelated drivers as long as they have insurance? like, if i buy a porsche, can i let my buddy drive it whenever he wants as long as his 1986 civic is insured?

I don't know who's liable for what, I think it depends on your insurance companies, but if the bumper is already messed up (why didn't he replace it?) and there's a "tiny" dent in it, then he might not get mad?

Regarding point one:

Well, if my bumper was already fucked up, I would try and negotiate with you for a couple of reasons: (1) I'd probably be leaning on letting the whole issue go (2) Just because my bumper already has damage doesn't mean I want additional damage to it, because it still has an increased negative aesthetic impact.

So, basically, it just depends on how bad the existing damage is, and how big an asshole the guy wants to be. I'd probably just price the bumper and request you to pay X% of the cost. X being a reasonable figure---again, depending on the damage caused, and taking into consideration that I had to replace the bumper anyway.

Regarding point two:

I know this isn't a very helpful comment, but I am guessing this really depends on his insurance company's policy, and your insurance company's policy. It basically would come down to two guys in suits quibbling over legal details. It's their jobs to get their respective companies not to pay anything more than necessary.

As a Porsche owner, the car does not make any difference in the situation of what happened.

Regardless of prior damage to the bumper, you would have to prove that the previous damage was there before it was hit.

if you hit him, regardless of who parked the car there, you are responsible for damages, based upon the fact that you still backed into the Porshce. Where there any witnesses?

The person who hits the person, unless the person hit ran a stop sign or traffic light, is responsible. Regardless if it is a Porsche or a Chevy Chevette.

What can be a determinig factor of paying for this and effecting your insurance will depend on the deductable you have.

What kind of Porsche was it? 356, 911, 930, 944, 928 Boxter or Cayenne?

I just hope it was not a 356 or 930....they are very pricey! 911's are cake on replacing the bumber...most expensive part is the Paint. Matching a stock 911 factory paint job is pricey, due to the alloy, primers needed and matching required, as they will use a special PPG paint.

A 356 in most cases will be a fixer upper. Even in poor shape, if it was a cabriolet or speedster, there price value will go from $30,000.00 to $150,000.00. They are getting to be rare.

So depending on the make of the Porsche will determine the pricing.

We have a 911 in our group that has a bad paint job, yet the engine, body and interior are perfect and rust free. So even though the Paint job sucked, it was still all original and keeps it's price value. Re-Painted Porsches will drop in price, due to it not being 100% original.

Since your insurance pays for it*, they should be very helpful in trying to pay for as little as necessary. Call them up, let them know what happened and make sure they know the bumper was messed up to begin with.

i dont really understand the logic behind the "anyone who is insured can drive any car" thing. i find that hard to believe, although it is a stretch to think that it matters who parked the car, anyway, i just wasnt sure. the porsche is a 928, for the record, the concern isnt primarily with the bumper, the guy who was driving it thinks that i may have pushed the bumper slightly up on the aluminum side panel, and he thinks i may have to replace the entire side panel, which i find incredibly hard to believe based on how fast i was going when i hit the car. my deductible is 500 bucks, so im pretty much ready to pay that, the problem is getting in an accident as a male at my age will practically double my insurance. its fucking frustrating because if it had been any practical car, i would have caused no damage at all.

when you buy an insurance contract then you can select to insure for more than one person or something but otherwise only the person who the insurance was got 4 can drive it (legally of course <_< )
