  • Anyone play MUDs?

So I was kinda bored earlier, and I decided to check out these MUD games again. I see that they are still popular, with some of the more popular ones having 500+ players online at peak times.

I was just wondering if anyone plays any MUDs. I don't really expect it because they are kinda boring and all that but I was just trying to find a good one.

I was gonna check out Aardwolf which seems pretty cool, and Materia Magica has somewhat of a graphical interface it looks like.

    Anyone know any good ones?

Lost Souls is a MUD i played years ago, it's remarkable for its combat system and overall creativity in game world and guilds. When i last checked it they changed it to a point i'd have to relearn it from scratch to keep up, so i guess it's really still alive and kicking

If you lose a limb or have one disabled (broken, crushed, etc), there are
healers which can restore them for you. One of these is located in the
city of Losthaven; there are likely to be more.

The larger a limb is, the more hit points it has; however, being larger
also means it is easier to hit.

When the hit points of a limb go below zero, it is disabled; you cannot
wield weapons, hold shields, or perform any other active tasks with a
disabled limb. However, if there is already armour on it, the armour will
not be removed. If your head is disabled, you die; if your chest is
disabled, it will continue to bleed, losing hit points.

When a limb reaches -1/4 of its normal maximum hit points, it is chopped
off; if you look around, you'll probably see it lying on the ground nearby.
If this happens to your chest, either through being hit or through bleeding,
            you will die.
            Hmm, I wonder:
            Code:
The orc chops at your lower body with his axe.
            >health lower limbs
Your left leg has 43/50 hp.
Your right leg has 42/50 hp.
Your third leg has -45/60 hp.
            You lose a leg.
            >shout Noooooo!
            You shout Noooooo!
People who are rather more than six feet tall and nearly as broad across the shoulders often have uneventful journeys. People jump out at them from behind rocks then say things like, "Oh. Sorry. I thought you were someone else."

My friend showed me a MUD once. Actually, he showed me a lot of games, including Continuum, but I digress.

All text and not knowing any commands definetely ruins the game before I even begin it.

Recovering BatMUD, ZombieMUD, Icesus addict (8+ yrs) here...clear for couple of years already. I can heartily recommend all three if you're interested in getting a MUD addiction. Pft, best thing about MUDs is that the learning curve is really long and you keep finding out new things about the MUD for all eternity. If you're not interested in putting in some effort, you might as well forget it.

Also did some game development. Check out this horror adventure game if you like point'n'clicks.
