That depends who you ask.Originally posted by BlankeIt's a theory, a plan for the future. Remember that thread about an elevator to the moon.
What makes religion religion and not a fable?
If said asshat was claming it was sci fi, that's cool with me too, then. The problem is, he's implying its around the corner and it's based on legitimate scientific reasearch, instead of wildly distant hypothesis with little, if any, actual reasearch. It sounds like it's the same kind of shit L. Ron Hubbard used to write about.
I love the cheesy airbrushed microbiology pic . Haha, hillarious.

the balance is already broken. life is based on pain. nature evolved many times more negative feedback mechanisms than positive. nature works on the platform of competition. the balance is already broken for severe depressives as wellOriginally posted by Bob (SRB)but here's the bottom line: balance is what keeps life going, and every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you are willing to break the balance of pleasure/pain, you are going to pay for it.Last edited by Tone; 10-14-2005, 02:33 AM.

No you are wrong, no matter how much you repeat the same thing over and over again. basically you delivered the best argument against your theory yourself.Originally posted by ToneNo you are wrong, there already exists such people. its called major depressive disorder. they experience pain and anhedonia all of the time, with very little pleasure compared to the average person. yet they experience their state as pain constantly no matter how long and no matter how different or less or nonexistant their other states for possible contrast exist compared to the average person...
those major depressive disorder people (however they are called in english) can not experience joy, no matter what good happens to them. well, that works both ways. in your world no matter how much someone would suffer, he would still feel good. this is no cure, its an illness. no matter what that creature does, it feels the same. kill somebody, destroy something, die. unlimited pleasure.
and you cant eliminate the fact that people suffer. something will always change, something will always break, someone will always die. and thats a good thing. nothing is worse than static. may it just be a bug drowning in your glass. morale is useless if killing and caring gives you a good feeling.

I thought one of the main concepts of love, was to put your absolute trust in someone, and know that they wouldn't hurt you. That's why it's so scary the first time.7:Randedl> afk, putting on makeup

killing wouldnt exist. perfect morals and empathy without any pain needed. it wont be that your thoughts have changed a little or youll feel numb about good and bad. what were thinking about here in theory is your state will change to something you cannot imagine, a much bigger difference than say soneones first acid or mdma trip, and much better with zero side effects. every person here would change their mind more instantly than hitting the crack pipeOriginally posted by Fluffzmorale is useless if killing and caring gives you a good feeling.

Next time you disagree with me try to voice your diferences in opinion in a civilized way. I don't agree with you would suffice, followed by your reasons, if you felt like posting them, once again in a civilised manner...Originally posted by Tonethis is the dumbest most fucked up thing ive read in a long time. BS. all mumbo jumbo non sense excuses for accepting pain and suffering. pseudo wisdom crap. and if you were engineered in a particular way, youd actually have deeper and truer feeling that way, not less like Brave New World, the only difference is all the depth and intense feeling and emotion would all be only positive with no negative. there is no purpose to pain & suffering whatsoever. in the end all existance comes down to pleasure & pain. so theres no other purpose or meaning to life than reducing pain and increasing pleasure.
love can be even more special without pain. pain makes love negative and posionous. we can be fixed to experience no pain from love. if love fails memories could be erased. people could be altered to not be attached to any one love perhaps.
As no one ever told you that you talk in a strange way... you also seem to have a very close minded view of what love and human relations areOriginally posted by T0NEEDIT: but if two in love both have high oxytocin levels and their brain chemistry as such to never experience dysphoria and anxiety, their love could never fail.
You seem to be mistaking love for pure carnal pleasure... and there are a lot of diferences... one is about having the most "oxitocin disforia yabba yabba yabba that kind of stuff you know" and the other is to share and endure with your partner everything that life throws at both of you... being it happyness or sadness, pain or pleasure, if you eliminate pain you would lose half the challenge.Last edited by Arikel; 10-14-2005, 01:51 PM.A kiss is a rosy dot over the 'i' of loving.
