The Hedonistic Imperative Manifesto

I have a working theory that Tone is chemically imbalanced in some way. Manic Depressive, One or the other maybe, something else entirely maybe. Who knows? But that is what is his impetus behind all of his future technology will save us from our emotions, gobblety****. This isn't the only thread he's posted on the topic, mind you. In fact, it's about 70% of the content of all his posts.

Whatever his problem is, he wants to use this to fix himself. A shame almost, if you think about it. It is in fact, a little sad. Maybe he just doesn't know enough about the world. I know lots and lots of people who wouldn't want the human genome "intelligently rewritten". They wouldn't want to go through life never experiencing "negative" emotions. The amazing thing is how close Tone thinks this is apparently, but doesn't stop to realize that no matter how old he is now, he'll never be able to live to an age to "benefit" from it. Why? Because of how much of the world would fight it. If introduced it'd make abortion seem like yesterday's argument, done and over with. It wouldn't be an argument so much as an all out fight and war.

Maybe Tone just isn't grown up enough, or is incapable of understanding how powerful and necessary these negative emotions can be. Maybe he had his heart broken one too many times. Maybe he's a sociopath. Hell if I know for sure. I do know that whatever the reason, the result isn't really interesting, or anger worthy. It's just a little bit sad to see someone like that. It's like looking at a fish out of water.

if you mean ad hominem in the fashion that I'm talking about his motives rather than just the insanity coming out, then yeah. But if you mean it in the way that it's an attack, it wasn't meant as one. Seriously. Can you just imagine what that would be like? If that's what is going on with the guy, I truly feel bad for him. I don't know him, so I couldn't say for sure. Maybe there's more of a person there than I'd given credit to before, I don't know. But I do know that if this is what he's about, I can't even imagine what that must be like.
