BOSE is well known for being hideously overpriced and for having a reputation that has no basis whatsoever on their quality.

The Triports cost some $150 and have the weakest headband in audio history. The sound quality is nothing special even if they cost $40.

The QuietComfort 2s are better but they cost $250 which is quite excessive. The noise cancelling is ineffective against sudden noises and introduces a certain amount of noise into the music. I will sell my rebranded (new) Etymotic Er-4ps to anyone who wants them for $140 and they completely blow the QC2s out of the water.

For the price of Triport/QC2 there are many options which are better in all ways. For 1/2 the price of Triport/QC2 there are still as many options which are better in all ways. Well, the QC2s are a little tricky if you don't like canalphones, since Sennheiser PXC250 are above $125 IIRC, but you can nevertheless still get better quality for $100.

I had a pair of stereo headphones for like 5 years that I got from Wal-Mart. I think they were Panasonic. They were great, held up for a really long time, but I lost them when I moved . I think they were like $15-20 USD. So, what am I saying? Check out Wal-Mart.

If you are going for the big sorta ones and not for like noise cancelling, you could always try these

These are nice, with the amp I'm looking at they convert to Ety Er-4s. The only problem is the comfort - I haven't tried out the tips yet since I'm not 100% sure if I'm keeping them and I don't want to kill the resale value by using the tips.

From an isolation standpoint they're basically the same as high quality earplugs, people have gone through fire alarms only realizing that there was an alarm from the flashing lights, not from the sound of the alarm.

He's not looking for a pair of headphones to listen and master music with, nor is he looking for them to block out all existing noise. He's looking for a pair to plug into his fucking computer and listen.

So you guys, shut the fuck up and let him buy a decent cheap pair of headphones without your stupid, "MINE PLAYZ AT 6a213498GHz"

Go shove your useless knowledge up your snobby asses and get the fuck out.

Have to trust what they say. And I agree..tho I haven't really tested other headphones except some old DT911 my friend got.

Tho I guess those are a bit out of your budget.

Thinking about Etymotic ER-6i's for my ipod... have for a while, but I haven't yet been able to justify the $150 it costs for them.

Exactly, my Panasonic's kicked ass. They blocked out noise at full volume, too. Win.

Oh, if you can't find them at Wal-Mart, try some of the record stores like Tower Video. They usually have a section of headphones that range from like $3 to $70. Also, if you prefer being a hermit, try the Internets.

Dock: IIRC Etymotic Er-6is are only about $80 or so. If you want to boost the budget a little higher I'm willing to sell you my Ety Er-4ps for the price you were thinking of for 6is ($150).

Edit: If your headphones don't block out sound at normal volume, DO NOT TURN THE VOLUME UP! You are looking at hearing loss and ringing ears in a pretty quick way if you do that. The same goes for iPod earbuds. If you can't hear your music at your home volume, turn the iPod off - don't turn up the volume! Now, I am not suggesting that you need to buy $100 earbuds to listen to music in noisy conditions, but even JVC Fx-55 ($15 from buy.com) gives you a decent amount of isolation against noise and it beats out turning up the volume by a huge amount.
