I think the addition of James Spader working with Shatner, makes Shatners part much more likeable.

I like House as well....runs of the sarcasm meter at times...but not bad either.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

Shatner's on Boston Legal, basically the rebranded version of The Practice. Boston Public was about a public school. All of the above were created by David E. Kelley, so the confusion is understandable.

Thank you for the correction...dunno where the Public part came into my head. It is Boston Legal. Please excuse my temporary Alzheimer moment.

Maybe you were just thinking of Ally McBeal because Boston Public came on right after that.

                      Way off topic, I know...

Boston Legal reminds me more of LA Law than The Practice (yes, I'm that fucking old).

The way I remember LA Law was it was more about developing each of the characters, and the technical side of the court cases were hyper-simplified. It had more of a poppy, mainstream feel. Also, the mood of these two shows are far less dark than The Practice was. The Practice's stories, character arcs--even the lighting--was moody and dark. The lighting of LA Law and Boston Legal are both pretty warm. Remember all of Spader's personality flaws? I thought they were much more self destructive in The Practice, and now they seem whimsical and non-threatening. Night terrors? A fear of clowns? Those are actually funny, and previously he was blackmailing people and lying like a sociopath.

David E Kelley did a lot of work with LA Law as Executive Producer and had a lot of writing credits, as well. So that should explain a lot of the similarities.

Actually, I find there's more of an Ally McBeal tone.
