From what I've heard, xbox was made with mostly PC parts, which wasn't too smart, but the 360 was made from mostly custom parts.
Which leads to a compatability issue concerning video games. In order for xbox games to work on the 360 they'd need to emulate them somehow.
Enter Xbox 360 HD - EVENTUALLY, the 360 should have all xbox games emulated, but I do believe you need the hard drive to make them work. This is a hindrance, but it was smart for them to at least have some of the bestsellers emulate on startup.
