Well, I might have created one of these posts before, but no matter.

I'm thinking about buying an ibook/powerbook for college next fall--i know it's early.

What are your takes on this, and what did you do about .exe executable files? Because I wouldn't be able to use a lot of the files i normally use?

Edit: I started using Opera today, after having it downloaded for a few months. I decided to check it out and see if I could try to use it without wimping out like the first time; I was in a rush last time and didnt'have time to configure it and everything.

So I've looked at it for an hour or so, used it, and like the functionality of it. I can do so many things with the mouse, it's amazing.

The current rumor is that at the January Macworld Expo, there will be an iBook released using an Intel processor. It's a reasonable starting point and could drop the price point of the iBook by as much as 200-300 dollars.

Not sure what the Opera thing is about. Safari is the way to go. And no, you won't be able to use .exe files on OS X.

Also, Send: You're only half a decade or more behind the times with that two mouse button insult. Every version of X has liked them. Not sure how many it can go up to now, but I know for certain it can do 6 button mice without needing to install any kind of driver. Yay.

Do you know what kind of Intel processor it might use? If it's celeron, it might be off better with its current chip? 1.67 gigahertz is how much is on the 15" powerbook and the computer which I'm using right now

Nobody knows for sure. It will be better than the current processor. Apple doesn't move backwards in that respect. The current processor is a G4 for notebooks, and moving to an intel processor pretty much no matter what they use will be bound to produce a good sized speed bump. Though I can be pretty sure it won't be a Celeron.

                    I fixed it Sarien.

My encoding was changed to not be Western ISO something or another, which I guess changes everything.

                    The end.

                      You can't FTP with Safari

FTP'ing in a Mac is hard to do, tech support for this is annoying to say the least.

Yes, I agree, it is very hard to ftp on a mac. Most of it being hard comes from trying to decide which method you want to use to do so.
You can pop open a terminal and type it out (like I usually do)
Or you can use the Connect to Server Menu option in the Finder.

Point of fact, if you type out an ftp address in Safari, (ftp://blahblah.com) It will automagically open a finder window, and connect to the server you specified.

                        Sadly, you are misinformed.

                          But try to download/upload
it'll let you connect but downloading and uploading is another story completely.
I've tried several times on different macs, and also I've had customers try when we're on the calls, but none have ever allowed the transfers.
Could be doing it wrong, but I'm just doing how we were trained to, and we usually ask the mac user to find some FTP program because that simplifies it hardcore.

I did. I had to upload that picture, after all. Same as I've uploaded every other picture/photoshop I've ever posted from my webspace. Using ftp from the terminal.

You're doing it wrong/were trained wrong.

The way I do it is, open a terminal, change to the folder I want to send the file, ftp, open, <address>, log in, change to the folder where I want the file to be or where the file I need to send is, and type send <filename>. Or if I want to get a file from the remote connection? get <filename>. Then you just type "bye", and end it.
